Job Description This position has primary responsibility for management of theadministrative office and critical business practices at VirginiaTech's Tidewater Agricultural Research and Extension Center(Tidewater AREC). Located in Suffolk, Virginia (village of Holland)Tidewater AREC is one of the largest off-campus units within theuniversity's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences/ VirginiaAgricultural Experiment Station. Tidewater AREC is currently hometo nine resident faculty members, three postdoctoral associates, 14full-time staff, numerous part-time wage, and student employees, 11graduate students; and has an annual research budget ofapproximately $2 million and personnel budget of $2.1 million. Inthis role, the Office Manager will be expected to overseeday-to-day fiscal and human resources operations at Tidewater AREC.The most critical areas of responsibility are accounting for andreconciliation of over 200 individual funds; financial reporting(monthly, annually, multi-year) at both the unit level as well asthe individual faculty level; providing support for procurement andreceiving shipments; payroll projections and entry; and local humanresource tasks including onboarding and offboarding employees andtroubleshooting issues. Other tasks include assistance withcoordinating facility repair and maintenance with internal offices(i.e., University Facilities) and external contractors, inventorymanagement, service on the TAREC safety committee, providingscheduling and communications support for the Tidewater ARECDirector and Assistant Director, and development of guidelines andprotocols that increase the efficiency of operations at theTidewater AREC. The Office Manager will also manage a part-time (30h/week) office assistant position that supports the activitieslisted above. Required Qualifications A positive and collaborative attitude with service-orientedmindset. Associate's degree in administrative or business management,accounting, or related field; or the combination of education andwork-related experience. Computing experience with emphasis on the Microsoft suite ofapplications including Word, Excel, Outlook, OneDrive/Sharepointand Teams. Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow organizationalprocedures. Ability to maintain accurate digital and paper records in anorganized manner. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and writtenEnglish. Ability to maintain confidentiality as required in mattersrelated to personnel management. Ability to multitask effectively and efficiently. Ability to become proficient in the use of Virginia Techproprietary software/databases used in fiscal, HR, safety,inventory, etc. within 12-months of start date. Preferred Qualifications University degree (BA/BS/MBA) in agricultural economics and/orbusiness administration, business management, or accounting. Demonstrated skills (coursework and/or experience) in financialdata management, administrative office management and/oraccounting. Demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience in a businesssetting.
