POSITION OVERVIEW
Guided by goodness, loyalty, faith, and fun, the Regional Health &Wellness Director provides clinical and operational leadership to assigned senior living communities, supporting Wellness Directors, Executive Directors, and regional leadership in delivering safe, person-centered, elder-directed care. The role promotes consistent wellness practices across the region; strengthens clinical leadership; supports regulatory compliance, quality improvement, staffing, training, and risk management; and partners with community teams to achieve strong resident, family, team member, and operational outcomes.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Regional Leadership & Community Support
- Provide regional leadership, coaching, education, and mentorship to Wellness Directors and community wellness teams across assigned communities.
- Partner closely with Executive Directors, Regional Directors of Operations, the Vice President of Wellness, and other functional leaders to identify priorities, remove barriers, and strengthen community performance.
- Support onboarding, orientation, development, and ongoing competency of Wellness Directors and other clinical leaders.
- Provide interim clinical leadership and hands-on community support when vacancies, transitions, survey activity, significant incidents, or other operational needs require additional regional presence.
- Conduct routine community visits and maintain consistent communication with community leadership regarding wellness operations, risks, priorities, and follow-up items.
- Promote accountability, collaboration, and a positive team culture consistent with Compass Senior Living leadership values.
Clinical Quality & Resident Care
- Provide oversight and guidance for resident assessments, service plans, changes in condition, level-of-care decisions, move-in readiness, and care transitions in accordance with applicable state requirements and company standards.
- Support communities in maintaining accurate, timely, and complete wellness documentation and resident records.
- Review and trend resident incidents, falls, medication events, hospital transfers, wounds, infections, and other clinical indicators to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Partner with community teams to develop and implement corrective actions, quality improvement plans, and sustainable practices designed to reduce recurrence and improve outcomes.
- Provide clinical consultation within professional scope and company policy while recognizing that community licensed staff remain responsible for resident-specific clinical decisions within their scope of practice.
- Support coordination with physicians, pharmacies, home health, hospice, therapy, and other external care partners as appropriate.
Regulatory Compliance & Survey Readiness
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable assisted living, residential care, memory care, nurse practice, medication management, infection prevention, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements within assigned states.
- Assist communities in maintaining ongoing survey readiness and compliance with Compass Senior Living policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Participate in regulatory surveys, complaint investigations, licensing visits, plans of correction, and follow-up activities as requested.
- Review community practices and documentation for compliance; identify areas of risk and partner with leadership to implement timely corrective action.
- Ensure required clinical and regulatory reporting is completed accurately and within applicable timeframes.
- Provide oversight and guidance to ensure resident care levels accurately reflect current assessed needs and services being provided.
- Partner with community leadership to ensure timely reassessments following changes in condition and other circumstances that may impact care needs.
- Monitor care-level revenue and related trends across assigned communities, identifying opportunities to ensure appropriate revenue capture while maintaining accuracy, transparency, regulatory compliance, and alignment between assessed needs, services provided, and resident charges.
- Support infection prevention and control practices, including education related to bloodborne pathogens, communicable disease response, and required precautions.
Wellness Team Leadership, Staffing & Development
- Coach Wellness Directors on hiring, orientation, scheduling, performance management, attendance, accountability, and retention of wellness team members.
- Support staffing plans that align resident acuity, occupancy, state requirements, service needs, and responsible labor management.
- Assist with recruitment and selection of Wellness Directors and other key clinical positions as requested.
- Identify training and re-education needs through observation, incident trends, audits, survey outcomes, and performance data.
- Develop, coordinate, and/or deliver regional clinical education, leadership development, competency support, and best-practice training.
- Promote effective delegation, role clarity, and appropriate use of licensed and unlicensed team members consistent with applicable law and scope-of-practice requirements.
Risk Management & Quality Improvement
- Review significant clinical events and assist with timely, objective investigations, root-cause analysis, and follow-up.
- Identify emerging clinical and operational risks and promptly escalate significant concerns to appropriate leadership.
- Partner with community and regional leaders on quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives and monitor completion of corrective actions.
- Use clinical, staffing, incident, and operational data to identify trends and recommend practical improvements.
- Support resident rights, dignity, choice, privacy, and person-centered practices throughout assigned communities.
Business & Operational Partnership
- Partner with operations to support wellness department budgets, labor management, agency utilization, overtime, occupancy, level-of-care revenue, and other operational priorities while maintaining appropriate care and compliance standards.
- Use clinical, staffing, labor, and care-revenue data to identify trends and opportunities and develop action plans that strengthen resident outcomes, team member performance, operational efficiency, and financial responsibility.
- Support successful resident move-ins by helping communities evaluate care needs, service capabilities, staffing considerations, and clinical readiness.
- Collaborate with Sales and Marketing, Operations, People Experience, and other departments when clinical expertise is needed to support community and organizational goals.
- Build productive relationships with residents, families, team members, providers, vendors, and external partners while supporting timely resolution of concerns.
- Participate in regional and company meetings, strategic initiatives, policy development, and implementation of standardized wellness practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing is preferred; LPN/LVN may be considered where consistent with organizational needs and applicable state requirements.
- Multi-site senior living, assisted living, memory care, long-term care, or related healthcare leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of resident assessment, service planning, medication management, infection prevention, incident management, clinical documentation, and quality improvement.
- Experience supporting regulatory surveys, plans of correction, and compliance across one or more states preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop clinical leaders, influence without direct authority, manage competing priorities, and drive accountability across multiple locations.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use company clinical, HR, and operational systems.
- Valid driver license and ability to meet applicable company driving requirements.
- Must meet applicable background, health, credentialing, and licensure requirements.

TRAVEL AND AVAILABILITY
- Frequent travel to assigned communities is required and may include overnight travel; travel expectations will vary based on regional needs.
- Ability to adjust schedule and provide support outside normal business hours when significant clinical, regulatory, staffing, or operational needs arise.
- Ability to work on-site in communities and temporarily provide additional support during leadership vacancies, transitions, surveys, or other critical needs.
