Medical AssistantContentnea Health is a Community Health Center providing comprehensive medical, dental and behavioral health services for members of our communities in Greene, Pitt and Pamlico counties in eastern North Carolina.Responsibilities and DutiesAssists medical practitioners with patient care.Performs pre-visit planning.Obtains vital signs.Performs standing orders.Reviews medical histories with patients.Prepares patients for examinations and assists practitioner with examinations and procedures.Collects and processes lab specimens.Administers medications and immunizations.Performs vision and hearing tests, ear irrigation, electrocardiograms, spirometry, wound care, splinting, nebulized therapies, and other clinical orders.Ensures collected data is communicated to practitioner and properly documented in electronic health record (EHR) and other designated databases, such as NCIR.Relays instructions and education to patients.Transmits medication orders/refills to pharmacies.Completes practitioner-related administrative documentation, including but not limited to durable medical equipment (DME) paperwork and other patient-care related forms, in accordance with organizational policies and payer requirements.Provides temporary support for front desk operations when assigned, which may include patient check-in and check-out, appointment scheduling, telephone support, and patient insurance verification.Maintains clinical areas.Enacts OSHA medical office standards for sanitation of intake areas, exam rooms, and laboratory, before, during, and after each patient.Properly disposes of medical waste, including sharps.Participates in inventory, stocking, and organization of medical supplies, medications, and/or immunizations, in exam rooms, laboratory, and storage areas, including crash carts, refrigerators, and freezers.Participates in regular maintenance of medical equipment such as laboratory machines, electrocardiogram machines, nebulizers, glucometers, and defibrillators.Possesses work-related skills at a higher level than completion of high school, including formal written and verbal communication skills, computational and computer skills, mathematical, technical or health care related knowledge frequently acquired through completion of a trade school, para-professional, or certificate type program. Possesses specific knowledge of medical assisting processes and practices, typically acquired during completion of a certificate in medical assisting or nursing assisting with a duration of up to a year. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
