Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for telecommunications and low-voltage infrastructure projects. This role evaluates drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

The Estimator works closely with clients, vendors, engineers, contractors, and internal project teams to clarify scope, resolve discrepancies, and support project planning from initial proposal through contract changes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates covering materials, labor, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs based on drawings, specifications, site conditions, and proposal requirements.
• Complete and review quantity takeoffs to verify accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the proposed scope of work.
• Analyze blueprints, network diagrams, floor plans, and supporting documentation to identify installation requirements, cost drivers, and potential risks.
• Consult with clients, vendors, construction supervisors, and internal departments to develop estimates, confirm assumptions, and resolve questions.
• Coordinate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors regarding design changes and adjustments to estimates.
• Review proposal requirements and contract documents to ensure estimates include the appropriate scope and clearly document assumptions, exclusions, and clarifications.
• Proactively identify missing information, scope gaps, and conflicting requirements; prepare questions and work with the project team to obtain answers.
• Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations, including pricing, technical specifications, availability, and lead times for telecommunications hardware, software, materials, and services.
• Prepare estimate summaries and supporting documentation for management review, budgeting, project planning, and scheduling.
• Review contract modifications and prepare estimates for change orders, including appropriate cost allowances for additions or revisions to the scope.
• Prepare periodic cost and expenditure statements and maintain estimating documentation throughout the project.
• Use CAD, Microsoft Visio, and PDF editing or markup tools to prepare, review, or evaluate network diagrams, floor plans, and site configurations for existing facilities, renovations, and new installations.
• Apply familiarity with applicable EIA/TIA and other industry standards when evaluating project requirements and developing estimates.
• Maintain current knowledge of telecommunications technologies, installation practices, materials, and estimating methods through training, industry publications, and professional participation.
• Support project handoffs by communicating the estimated scope, pricing assumptions, and outstanding issues to the project delivery team.

Required Qualifications

• Experience estimating telecommunications, structured cabling, low-voltage systems, or related construction projects.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, scopes of work, and contract documents.
• Demonstrated ability to perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed material and labor estimates.
• Understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, installation methods, and applicable EIA/TIA and industry standards.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and estimating tools, along with working knowledge of CAD, Microsoft Visio, and PDF review or markup software.
• Ability to evaluate vendor quotations and identify scope gaps, cost discrepancies, and technical questions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple estimates, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
• Relevant education, technical training, or an equivalent combination of practical experience and demonstrated estimating skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Field experience installing or supervising telecommunications or low-voltage systems.
• Experience preparing change-order estimates and supporting project cost tracking.
• Familiarity with copper and fiber-optic cabling, pathways, equipment racks, and associated telecommunications infrastructure.
• Relevant telecommunications, construction, or estimating certifications.
