Position Information Working Title: UTS - Temporary Payroll Tax Specialist at NC State Posting Number: PG196023TM Position Number: 48AJ53 Position Type: Temporary (Time Limited: Yes, Appointment Length: 11 months) Job City & State: Raleigh, NC Responsibilities The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the accurate reconciliation and reporting of multi-state payroll taxes following each monthly and bi-weekly payroll cycle. This role serves as a key resource for employees regarding state tax matters, providing timely and accurate guidance on tax withholdings and responding to questions concerning state taxation. The position is also responsible for following up with employees who have addresses outside of North Carolina to determine their work state, ensuring compliance with applicable state tax regulations and proper withholding practices. Requirements and Preferences Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8AM-5PM Minimum Experience and Education Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in payroll processing, tax reporting, or a related accounting/finance function. Experience working with HRIS or payroll systems required; Oracle PeopleSoft experience. Basic knowledge of payroll tax principles and regulations required. Department Required Skills Demonstrated experience using Oracle PeopleSoft HR systems is required. Proven experience with payroll tax reporting, including multi-state tax processes, is required. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education 2-4 years of experience in payroll tax reporting, with a focus on multi-state taxation preferred. Working knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements. Experience using enterprise HRIS systems, such as Oracle PeopleSoft, to manage payroll and tax functions. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a high level of attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively respond to employee inquiries. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
