Med/Surg Stepdown RN – 8 East (WVU) Quick Screening Summary

Unit: 8 East – Med/Surg Stepdown & Floor
Shift: Days or Nights (7:00 AM–7:30 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
Beds: 34
Charting: Verify with facility
Radius Rule: Must live more than 50 miles from facility (Driver's License required)

Must-Have Requirements

✅ Active RN License
✅ BLS Certification
✅ Recent Med/Surg and/or Stepdown experience
✅ Telemetry experience
✅ Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
✅ Comfortable titrating IV drips
✅ Comfortable caring for higher-acuity Stepdown patients

Unit Details

Patient Ratios

• Stepdown: 1:3
• Med/Surg Floor: 1:5-6

Support Staff

• 2-5 Clinical Assistants (CAs)
• Day Shift Charge Nurse and Transport RN (when fully staffed)

Respiratory Support

• RT available 24/7
• Vent patients may be present on unit

Telemetry

• Tele Techs monitor and post strips
• RNs must independently interpret rhythms
