Construction Accountant

MASS is a Miami-based construction management and development advisory firm specializing in complex real estate projects across South Florida. The firm partners with developers, owners, architects, and investors to plan, entitle, and deliver multifamily, mixed-use, adaptive reuse, historic preservation, and urban infill developments. Serving as owner’s representative, construction manager, and licensed general contractor, MASS supports projects from early feasibility and pre-construction through permitting, construction, and closeout. Its integrated approach aligns stakeholders, anticipates challenges, and maintains control over cost, schedule, and quality, ensuring projects are buildable, efficient, and executed as intended while preserving design vision. The Role We’re seeking a Construction Accountant to manage project and corporate accounting for MASS’s multifamily, mixed-use, adaptive reuse, historic preservation, and urban infill projects across South Florida. You’ll work closely with PMs, Supers, and ownership to ensure accurate job costing, financial reporting, and compliance from preconstruction through closeout. Key Responsibilities Job Cost Accounting: Maintain accurate job cost reports, track committed costs, budgets, and change orders in Procore/Sage. Ensure costs align with GMP and owner contracts Accounts Payable/Receivable: Process subcontractor invoices, verify lien waivers, and manage pay applications. Prepare AIA G702/G703 owner billings and track collections Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly WIP reports, cash flow projections, and project P&L statements for ownership and project teams Budget & Forecasting: Work with PMs to update cost-to-complete forecasts, monitor budget vs. actuals, and flag variances early Subcontractor Compliance: Track insurance, licenses, and contract compliance for all vendors. Manage retention releases and final payments Payroll & Certified Payroll: Process union and non-union payroll. Prepare certified payroll reports for public or prevailing wage projects Closeout & Audit: Manage financial closeout, final lien releases, and project audits. Support annual corporate audits and tax prep Systems & Process: Improve accounting workflows between field and office. Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with GAAP Qualifications Experience: 3+ years construction accounting required. Experience with GC/CM firms handling $5M+ projects preferred Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of job costing, percentage-of-completion, AIA billing, change orders, and retention Software: Proficient in Sage 300 CRE/Timberline, Procore, QuickBooks, or similar. Advanced Excel skills required Education: Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA a plus Detail & Accuracy: Extremely detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Communication: Can work directly with PMs, owners, and subs to resolve cost issues and explain financials clearly Compliance: Knowledge of Florida lien law, sales tax, and certified payroll requirements preferred What We Offer Projects: Support accounting for award-winning, complex projects across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties Compensation: Competitive salary $75,000 - $105,000 based on experience Culture: Collaborative team with backgrounds in architecture and construction.
