AVP, Chief of Staff to the CTO

$191.85k - $239.81k

Voya Financial, Inc.

Together we fight for everyone’s opportunity for a better financial future. We will do this together — with customers, partners and colleagues. We will fight for others, not against: We will stand up for and champion everyone’s access to opportunities. The status quo is not good enough … we believe every individual and every community deserves access to financial opportunities. We are determined to support both individuals and communities in reaching a better financial future. We know that reaching this future depends on our actions today. Like our Purpose Statement, Voya believes in being bold and committed to action. We are committed to a work environment where the differences that we are born with — and those we acquire throughout our lives — are understood, valued and intentionally pursued. We believe that our employees own our culture and have a responsibility to foster an environment where we all feel comfortable bringing our whole selves to work. Purposefully bringing our differences together to positively influence our culture, serve our clients and enrich our communities is essential to our vision. Are you ready to join a company with a strong purpose and a winning culture?

The AVP, Chief of Staff (CoS) will be a strategic partner to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), deeply knowledgeable across the technology organization and embodying Voya's culture. This role reports to the CTO and leads the execution of technology strategy, operating rhythm, and business planning for the tech organization. The CoS acts as a trusted advisor and key liaison, facilitating communication and collaboration between the CTO's office, engineering leadership, and business partners across the enterprise.

Profile Description

Serve as a strategic partner to the CTO and technology leadership team, driving key initiatives and ensuring alignment between the technology roadmap and enterprise business goals. Lead cross‑functional projects spanning engineering, infrastructure, security, and product teams; facilitate communication between departments and monitor progress toward objectives. Analyze technology performance data, delivery metrics, and industry trends to provide actionable recommendations that support decision‑making and organizational growth. Oversee budgeting, fiscal management, and resource allocation across technology projects and operations, including vendor and capital spend. Prepare executive‑level reports, presentations, and communications for the CTO, board, and other internal and external stakeholders. Own the CTO's operating cadence — leadership meetings, all‑hands, QBRs, offsites — and ensure follow‑through on action items and decisions. Maintain high standards of confidentiality and integrity in all interactions and data handling, including sensitive technology, security, and personnel matters. Support the execution of organizational priorities and manage special projects as assigned by the CTO (e.g., reorganizations, major program launches, M&A technology integration). Stay informed of evolving technology trends, emerging tools (including AI/automation), and regulatory or security considerations relevant to a financial services technology organization. Demonstrated track record of shaping organizational strategy and driving strategic initiatives to achieve business objectives.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to evaluate complex technical and organizational situations and recommend effective solutions.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; credibility with engineering and technical leaders.
  • Advanced proficiency in project management tools and financial/budget analysis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both highly technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical judgment.
  • Knowledge & Experience: Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, engineering, management, or a related field.
  • 7+ years in a leadership or managerial role, preferably within technology, financial services, or a related industry.
  • Prior experience as a Chief of Staff or in a technology organization (engineering, IT, product) strongly preferred.
  • Experience analyzing data (technical, financial, or operational) and translating it into recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Proficiency in project and communication software (MS Office, Teams, OneNote); working understanding of budgeting and fiscal management.
  • Previous experience working closely with executive leadership or in a Chief of Staff capacity is advantageous.
