Job Description
The First Article Inspector is responsible for performing First Article Inspections (FAI) and preparing complete documentation in accordance with AS9102 standards for both machine shop and weld/fabrication operations. This role focuses on ensuring product quality through thorough inspection activities, accurate documentation, and adherence to established quality control processes.
Pay: $40-$50 per hour based on experience
Per Diem: $160/day
Responsibilities

• Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) on components produced in the machine shop and weld/fabrication shop in accordance with AS9102 standards.
• Review drawings, specifications, and customer requirements to determine appropriate inspection criteria and methods.
• Measure and verify dimensions, features, and characteristics of parts using appropriate inspection tools and equipment.
• Document all inspection results clearly and accurately in AS9102-compliant First Article Inspection reports.
• Ensure all required fields, forms, and supporting documentation are complete, traceable, and properly organized.
• Identify nonconformances and discrepancies, and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
• Work closely with production, welding, and fabrication teams to clarify requirements and support corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain compliance with internal quality control procedures and external industry standards related to FAI and AS9102.
• Handle and store inspection records and documentation in accordance with quality system requirements.
• Support continuous improvement efforts by providing feedback on recurring issues, trends, and opportunities for process enhancement.
• Operate safely in welding and fabrication areas, following all safety guidelines related to mechanical equipment, fumes, and environmental conditions.
• Meet project timelines by effectively managing workload across 1st or 2nd shift as required to complete inspection tasks.

Essential Skills

• Direct First Article Inspection (FAI) quality technician experience.
• Direct experience working with AS9102 standards and requirements.
• Hands-on documentation experience related to FAI and AS9102-compliant work.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in inspection and documentation activities.
• Familiarity with quality inspection practices in machine shop and weld/fabrication environments.
• Ability to work safely around welding operations, mechanical equipment, and industrial environments.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of York, PA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
