Summary
Independently performs moderate to complex assembly and fabrication of R&D prototypes, mockups, test articles, and product concepts. Works closely with Engineering and R&D teams to support innovative product development from concept through production while maintaining high standards of quality and craftsmanship. May provide technical guidance and support to other team members based on experience. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Build and assemble concept/spatial mockups, functional prototypes, test articles, and high-end show mockups with minimal supervision.
• Interpret and work from 2D drawings, 3D Model-Based Definition (MBD), specifications, work orders, BOMs, and written/verbal instructions.
• Fabricate and assemble components using metals, plastics, wood, composites, adhesives, laminates, and rapid-prototyping materials.
• Operate hand and power tools and equipment including saws, sanders, routers, drills, rivet guns, 3D printers, CNC equipment, and related shop tools.
• Apply advanced knowledge of BMS, BAC, JMS, and other applicable aerospace specifications.
• Inspect work throughout the build process to ensure dimensional accuracy, quality, craftsmanship, and engineering requirements.
• Troubleshoot build and assembly issues and collaborate with Engineers, Planners, Production, and Procurement to develop solutions.
• Maintain prototype tooling, shop equipment, inventory, and inspection controls to support efficient R&D operations.
• Track build schedules, BOM requirements, progress, and material/design needs to support program milestones.
• Identify and recommend improvements to build methods, tooling, workflow, equipment performance, quality, and shop efficiency.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe, and collaborative R&D work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Typically 2+ years of assembly or related prototype/manufacturing experience with demonstrated Journeyman-level proficiency.
• Vocational or job-related technical training preferred.
• Proficient in reading 2D drawings, 3D MBD, work instructions, and aerospace specifications.
• Strong working knowledge of hand/power tools, fabrication equipment, materials, assembly techniques, and shop processes.
• Ability to independently perform complex builds while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, computer, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Engineering and diverse cross-functional teams.
• Successful completion of required pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check.

Driving & Travel Requirements
May require operation of a company vehicle; a valid Washington State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record are required when applicable. Moderate domestic and international travel may be required.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work is performed in a typical R&D/manufacturing environment and frequently requires standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and close vision.
