Energy Advocate (Grant Funded)

Department of Housing & Community Development Pay Class/Grade: 7 Union: USWA Grant Funded Salary Range: $59,249.86 - $77,040.25 Position Summary The Energy Advocate (EA) role aims to work directly with community-based organizations and municipalities to increase public engagement and participation in the Mass Save Program. EAs will connect customers with energy‑efficiency programs and products, consult with Public Assistants on customer‑specific questions to facilitate access to programs and products, help customers overcome barriers to participation, and track those barriers. The EA fosters community engagement, program enrollment, and an increased knowledge base about Mass Save. For each Community First Partner team, the EA serves as the primary point of contact with the PAs and their Community First Partnership implementation vendor. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Attend all training and orientation activities for the Energy Advocate role. Contribute to planning, implementation, and tracking of all Mass Save Community First Program deliverables. Demonstrate self‑motivation and commitment by leading public engagement with the Community Partner Team and Mass Save Program Sponsors. Engage customers to participate in energy‑efficiency programs through public engagement strategies, events, and programming methods. Track program participation barriers by building relationships with program applicants and supporting them through the enrollment process. Serve as an ambassador for customers by providing feedback and administering surveys and tools to remove barriers to participation. Recruit and support local nonprofit organizations to design and implement the community‑based social‑marketing campaign each Community Partner Team will use. Meet with program vendors and sponsors to communicate findings, tactics, and progress. Minimum Qualifications Education : High School degree or equivalent required. A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is strongly preferred. Experience : 2–4 years of outreach, community engagement, public‑sector work, and/or communications required. Experience collaborating with city departments, external state/federal agencies, and the public is preferred. A combination of education and work experience will be considered. Skills & Abilities Commitment to increasing participation in Mass Save Programs. Ability to input data in designated program software. Ability to communicate and work with diverse populations. Ability to complete and submit standardized program reporting material. Demonstrated ability to lead public engagement and community outreach initiatives. Ability to work on individual projects or within a group as assigned. Strong organization and public‑speaking comfort. Creativity in promoting events and generating event ideas. After training, ability to track program participation barriers. Ability to attend meetings and report on Team progress. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is helpful.
