HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

Highway Maintenance Specialist

Join the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and be part of the team that works as one to improve safety, enhance mobility, and inspire innovation in the Florida transportation system. This position will coordinate with supervisor in the activities of the Department of Correction's contract of maintenance activities and/or In-House Field Crews.

The successful candidate will have the following required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

• Knowledge of procedures, techniques, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of highways, and/or other highway facilities.
• Skills in using construction measuring tools, equipment, and/or instruments.
• Listening to and following directions.
• Meeting established deadlines.
• Reading, writing, and basic math.
• Directing the work of others.
• Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, coordinate, report, and properly complete work assignments.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
• Operate a motor vehicle and other mechanical equipment.
• Maintain, repair, and report highways, bridges, and/or other highway structures.
• Work from high elevations, above water, in high volume traffic areas, and outdoors.
• Walk, kneel, bend, twist, lift, and carry 50 pounds.
• Learn to use a computer and software programs to aid with job duties.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Possess a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency.
• Requires one year of infrastructure experience or maintenance experience.
• An additional year of experience, for a total of two years' experience, in infrastructure structure or maintenance is a substitute for a High School Diploma or Certificate of High School equivalency.
• Possess a valid Class 'E' driver's license is required at time of hire.
• A CDL Class 'B' License Instructional Permit is required within 60 days of appointment to the position and obtain a CDL Class 'B' license with air brakes within 10 months of appointment.
