Position Summary We are currently seeking a Mental Health Technician who will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include the provision of a safe and therapeutic milieu, crisis intervention and assistance with activities of daily living. The Mental Health Technician must demonstrate flexibility for reassignment to units providing care to varied populations including male and female, adolescents and adults as well as dually diagnosed adults. Summary of Job Duties To provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. To ensure the safety and well being of these patients and to support the maintenance of therapeutic milieu. Essential Job Functions Conducts 15-minute rounds on patients per policy. Participate in restraint and seclusion of patients when required Supports facility service excellence standards. Give baths to patients and change patient’s briefs, when required. Acceptable oral and written communication skills/ legible handwriting skills. Ability to maintain information as highly confidential. Professional telephone etiquette and customer service skills by phone and face to face are critical. Certification as nursing assistant or patient care technician and/or familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred. Skills in dealing courteously with the public and other staff within the organization. A basic knowledge of human behavior or principles of psychology will be very useful as well as skills in prioritizing and in managing time. In the absence of any of these qualifications upon hire, employee must demonstrate the ability to learn these concepts and develop these skills within a reasonable time frame via the organization’s orientation and training program. Must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions. Able to assist in patient restraints and seclusions. Must Respond to All Codes Ability to stop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detain or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @ Hz,1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers. Individual must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force and the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.
