Sub Bus Aide

The Bus Aide is directly responsible to the Transportation Coordinator.

To assist in providing safe transportation for all students.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Possess appropriate level of education and experience to perform the essential duties relative to the position. Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, safety manuals, etc. and to generate routine reports and correspondence pertinent to the essential job duties. Ability to communicate and to demonstrate interpersonal skills effectively in dealing with students, staff, parents, community members, and educational agencies as related to performance of the duties of the position. Ability to perform mathematical operations and to apply mechanical skills and technical skills to accomplish the essential duties of the position. Ability to interpret and to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to perform routine tasks cooperatively and to adjust to interruptions, variables, or changes in standardized situations.

Ability to use good judgment for the safety of the children. Successful demonstrated experience in use of communication skills, in maintaining good student conduct and in showing concern for student welfare.

Assists the driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus. Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus. Reports behavior problems on the proper form to the student's principal. Fastens children in seat belts and wheelchair brackets. Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion. Relates to children in a way that will make their bus ride enjoyable. Performs other related duties as may be assigned or necessary for an efficient operation.

The duties of this job are normally performed in the following manner: The employee is regularly required to sit and to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; to walk; to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; to reach with hands and arms; to climb or balance; and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. For lifting over 25 pounds, the bus aide should request assistance from school personnel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
