Psychiatric Technician

Profession: PCT (Patient Care Tech) Specialty: Psych Tech Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evenings Hours per Shift: 8 hours (3 PM - 11:30 PM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare in a high-volume, intensive care environment License: Graduate of a State Certified PCT program Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Must-Have: High School Diploma or GED Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing or psychiatric/behavioral healthcare Current BLS certification Completion of training to perform vital signs, phlebotomy, EKGs, and blood glucose monitoring Ability to engage with children and adolescents in a trauma-informed manner

Description: The Psychiatric Technician plays an essential role in the Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit. This position provides direct patient care and clinical support under the supervision of registered nurses. Responsibilities include ensuring safety on the unit and engaging patients in therapeutic activities. Support is provided to children and adolescents with daily needs during their hospitalization. The role also involves performing clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and point-of-care testing. Care is delivered according to a trauma-informed, developmentally sensitive model. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with youth effectively. Prior experience in acute inpatient psychiatry or crisis intervention training is preferred. Successful completion of appropriate training in the use of restraints and seclusion is required.
