Position Overview The Occupational Therapist (OT) is a vital member of our Student Support Team. You will work with scholars from PK3 through 8th Grade to help them develop the fine motor, sensory, and functional skills necessary to thrive in an academic setting. You will play a key role in identifying barriers to learning and implementing evidence-based interventions that ensure there are "no back rows" in our classrooms. Core Responsibilities 1. Clinical Assessment & Evaluation Conduct comprehensive screenings and formal evaluations for scholars referred through the Student-Teacher Assistance Team (STAT) or the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). Assess neuro-musculoskeletal function, motor skills (fine, oral, and visual-motor), sensory processing, and daily living skills. Synthesize data into clear, actionable reports to determine eligibility for Special Education (IEP) or 504 Accommodation Plans. 2. Student Engagement Support Active Rapport Building: Establish trust and meaningful connections with scholars to increase their motivation and participation in therapeutic activities. Play-Based Intervention: Utilize age-appropriate, engaging strategies for PK3–8th-grade scholars to ensure therapy feels relevant and accessible. Classroom Integration: Support scholars in "re"l-time" d"ring transitions, recess, or lunch to generalize skills from the therapy room to the social school environment. Positive Behavioral Support: Implement trauma-informed and restorative practices to support students' emotional regulation and focus. Deliver high-quality, individual, and small-group therapy sessions as mandated by student IEPs. Design and implement therapeutic activities that improve classroom participation, including handwriting, keyboarding, and the use of adaptive materials. Consult with classroom teachers to modify the environment or provide adaptive equipment (e.g., specialized seating, weighted tools). Participate in MDT and IEP meetings, translating clinical findings into practical classroom accommodations for teachers and parents. 4. Compliance & Documentation Maintain precise and timely documentation of therapy sessions, progress notes, and quarterly IEP reports. Ensure all services comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the District of Columbia OSSE regulations. Manage Medicaid billing and contact logs with 100% accuracy. Qualifications Education: MasMaster's and Doctoral degrees in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. Licensure: Current (or eligible for) Occupational Therapist license from the DC Department of Health (DOH) . Experience: At least one year of experience in a pediatric or school-based setting, preferably within an urban environment. Skills & Competencies: Deep knowledge of child development from PK3 through early adolescence. Proven ability to engage students with diverse learning needs and backgrounds. Familiarity with EasyIEP (or similar) Special Education data systems. Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to culturally responsive practice.
