Job Title: Custodial Worker Job Description

This role supports a busy machine shop by maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. You will assist grinders on the shop floor with cell cleaning before and after materials are ground, manage debris and waste created during operations, and support ongoing sanitation control and routine maintenance throughout the facility.

Responsibilities

• Assist grinders on the machine shop floor with cleaning work cells before and after materials are ground.

• Clean and maintain areas where water is used to cool down ground metals, ensuring debris and residue are removed promptly.

• Collect and properly dispose of metal debris, sludge, and other waste generated during grinding operations on a frequent basis.

• Perform general janitorial and custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, trash collection, and surface cleaning in production areas.

• Support sanitation control by regularly cleaning high-traffic and high-contact areas to maintain a safe and orderly workplace.

• Assist with routine maintenance tasks related to cleanliness and organization of the machine shop environment.

• Handle physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving materials and waste containers up to 50 lbs.

• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around machinery and industrial cleaning equipment.

• Communicate effectively in English to understand instructions, safety information, and operational updates.

• Collaborate with team members and machine operators to prioritize cleaning tasks and minimize disruption to production.

Essential Skills

• Some custodial or janitorial experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs safely and repeatedly as part of daily tasks.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, bending, and carrying for extended periods.

• Ability to read and speak English to follow written and verbal instructions and safety guidelines.

• Experience with general cleaning, janitorial duties, and trash collection in an industrial setting.

• Comfort working in a machine shop or similar production environment with active equipment and machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Current or previous forklift certification is preferred.

• Experience as an industrial cleaner, custodial worker, or general laborer in a large facility is an asset.

• Familiarity with safe handling and disposal of industrial debris and waste materials.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate needs and issues promptly.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly work area.

Work Environment

This position is based in a 45,500 sq ft machine shop facility with active grinding and machining operations. You will work on-site in an industrial environment where water is used to cool ground metals and control debris. The standard schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., providing a consistent daytime shift. The role involves working around machinery, handling industrial waste and debris, and performing physically demanding tasks throughout the shift. Appropriate attire suitable for a machine shop, including safety gear as required, will be necessary to perform the job safely and effectively.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Woburn, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
