Youth Program Coach - Program Specialist

Program Specialist – Youth Coach Full-time, non-exempt, $31-33 per hour, 40 hours per week Location : Multiple locations in San Francisco and the East Bay Playworks is hiring a Program Specialist to work at elementary schools, leading games, supporting positive behavior, and helping create a fun and engaging recess environment. This hands‑on, outdoor role builds relationships with students and helps them develop teamwork, leadership, and conflict resolution skills. Responsibilities Partner directly with schools, provide support for programming across the Bay Area, and deliver professional development trainings to staff. Travel daily to locations in San Francisco or the East Bay; occasional travel outside the Bay Area may be required. Implement the consultative play‑based TeamUp program at 1–3 elementary schools, one week of programming per month. Deliver on‑site coaching, consultation, and modeling to school personnel. Implement program components: Recess – develop a safe, active playground with multiple game areas; play games and model positive behavior. Student leadership program – organize a Junior Coach program for 4th and 5th graders and facilitate monthly trainings; work with staff to manage Junior Coaches during recess. Instructional classes – lead 20–30 minute sessions teaching games students can play at recess; build confidence and skills. Maintain communication among Playworks staff, school staff, and teachers. Collect and maintain paperwork: schedules, meeting agendas, notes, lesson plans, newsletters, data. Plan and implement recess staff training. Support regional program team: work with Program Managers and Playworks staff to ensure quality at all schools. Be certified as a trainer and deliver Playworks Pro services to staff. Organize and facilitate staff trainings; engage in ongoing learning to develop training skills and curriculum. Attend conferences and professional development opportunities. Assist in preseason training for new and returning staff. Support regional community initiatives and fundraising events. Required Skills & Experience Love of play and enthusiasm for all types of recess games. Experience leading large and small groups of children, able to engage and inspire. Proven ability to train adult participants. Motivated self‑starter with success working independently and exercising good judgment. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to build and sustain relationships in diverse communities and integrate into school communities. Ability to engage diverse staff and leadership, promoting trust, collaboration, and partnership. Conceptual skill for the larger perspective with strong attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple tasks while staying focused on student experience. Excellent planning and organization skills.
