Golf Retail & Merchandising Manager Travis Club

Position Overview Travis Club is seeking a Golf Retail & Merchandising Manager to lead the Club's golf retail and merchandising operation during an exciting period of growth. The Club currently operates through temporary retail locations, including a 50 foot Spartan Golf Shop and Duke's pop up retail location, with the new Golf House scheduled to open in May 2027. This position will have the unique opportunity to help shape the retail operation leading into that opening and ultimately transition the business into its permanent home. The Golf Retail & Merchandising Manager will be responsible for merchandise buying, inventory management, vendor relationships, visual merchandising, retail financial performance, special orders, and the overall golf retail experience. The successful candidate will play an integral role in establishing the product mix, vendor portfolio, merchandising standards, operating procedures, and member experience for the new Golf House. As Travis Club continues to grow and evolve, this role will evolve with it. This individual must be comfortable working in a dynamic environment where priorities and responsibilities may change as the Club grows. Great private club retail is about more than merchandise. It is about knowing the membership, anticipating their needs, creating memorable experiences, and ensuring the Golf Shop consistently reflects the identity and standards of Travis Club. Key Responsibilities Retail Strategy and Financial Performance Develop and execute the golf retail strategy in partnership with the Director of Golf. Establish and manage annual sales, inventory, gross margin, and expense goals. Develop and maintain an annual Open to Buy plan to support appropriate inventory levels and purchasing decisions. Monitor key retail performance metrics including sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, sell through, markdowns, aged inventory, and purchasing trends. Analyze sales data and member purchasing patterns to guide future buying decisions. Identify opportunities to grow retail revenue while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and margins. Develop seasonal and annual retail plans based on Club activity, member preferences, historical performance, and future opportunities. Provide regular retail performance updates to Golf leadership and Club management. Merchandise Buying and Vendor Management Lead merchandise purchasing for apparel, headwear, footwear, accessories, gifts, and Travis Club branded merchandise. Develop seasonal merchandise assortments based on member preferences, Club events, current market trends, and the Travis Club brand. Establish and maintain strong relationships with vendors, manufacturers, and sales representatives. Continually identify new brands, products, and trends appropriate for the Travis Club membership. Attend appropriate trade shows, vendor meetings, and industry events to identify new products, brands, and merchandising opportunities. Develop unique Travis Club merchandise and private label products when appropriate. Negotiate purchasing terms and work with vendors to maximize product quality, availability, and financial performance. Coordinate vendor appointments, trunk shows, special orders, and other member facing retail experiences. Merchandising and Golf Shop Presentation Maintain an elevated, organized, and visually compelling retail environment consistent with the standards of Travis Club. Create seasonal displays, product stories, and merchandise presentations. Ensure Travis Club branded merchandise consistently reflects the quality and identity of the Club. Regularly refresh displays and assortments based on seasonality, inventory levels, member preferences, and product performance. Maintain organized and efficient retail storage and inventory areas. Take an active role in establishing the merchandising standards, product presentation, and overall retail environment of the new Golf House. Member and Guest Experience Deliver a highly personalized and service oriented retail experience for members and their guests. Maintain a visible presence in the Golf Shop and actively engage with members throughout the retail experience. Develop strong relationships with members and learn their individual preferences, interests, sizes, and purchasing habits. Assist members with product selection, special orders, personalized merchandise requests, gifts, and other retail needs. Maintain consistent communication with members regarding the status of special orders and merchandise requests. Anticipate member needs and proactively identify opportunities to enhance the retail experience. Handle member concerns and service recovery with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. Maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality when interacting with members and guests. Tournament and Event Support Partner with the Golf Professional staff on tournament gifts, prizes, apparel, accessories, and event merchandise. Source creative and appropriate merchandise for member events, tournaments, and Club initiatives. Coordinate purchasing and fulfillment of tournament and event merchandise. Ensure all event merchandise is ordered, received, organized, and distributed accurately and on schedule. Assist with tournament merchandise presentations, special event displays, trunk shows, and other member facing retail experiences. Inventory and Retail Operations Oversee receiving, pricing, tagging, stocking, transfers, returns, special orders, and inventory organization. Establish and maintain effective inventory controls and retail operating procedures. Conduct regular physical inventory counts and maintain accurate retail records. Monitor aged inventory and develop appropriate strategies for markdowns, promotions, and improved sell through. Maintain appropriate pricing and markup standards. Review invoices and merchandise receipts for accuracy and coordinate discrepancies, credits, and returns with vendors and Accounting. Maintain accurate vendor information and records. Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of merchandise purchases and sales. Work closely with Accounting and Golf leadership on purchasing, inventory, budgeting, and financial reporting. Maintain and support the Golf Shop point of sale and inventory management systems. Retail Team Leadership Supervise Golf Shop retail attendants and help establish expectations and service standards for the retail team. Assist with recruiting, training, scheduling, and development of Golf Shop retail staff. Provide ongoing product knowledge and sales training to retail attendants and Golf Professional staff. Educate the Golf team on new merchandise, brands, product features, and selling opportunities. Create a retail culture centered around hospitality, product knowledge, attention to detail, and personalized member service. Golf House and Club Collaboration Report directly to the Director of Golf and work closely with the Golf Professional staff and other Club departments. Help establish retail procedures, standards, systems, and workflows in preparation for the opening of the new Golf House. Play an active role in transitioning the golf retail operation from the Club's temporary locations into the permanent Golf House. Collaborate with Membership, Marketing, Events, Accounting, and other Club departments on member communications, merchandise initiatives, events, and Club programming. Demonstrate the flexibility and adaptability necessary to support an evolving Club and golf operation. Take ownership beyond the traditional boundaries of the position when necessary to help deliver an exceptional member experience. Qualifications Three or more years of experience in golf retail, private club retail, luxury retail, merchandising, or a related field is preferred. Demonstrated experience in merchandise buying, inventory management, visual merchandising, and vendor relationships. Strong understanding of golf and lifestyle apparel, footwear, accessories, and current retail trends. Experience developing seasonal buying plans and managing an Open to Buy process is preferred. Strong financial and business acumen with an understanding of gross margin, inventory turnover, sell through, markdowns, budgeting, and retail profitability. Strong visual merchandising skills and a high level of attention to product presentation. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a larger team. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities as Travis Club continues to grow and evolve. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and retail point of sale and inventory management systems. Private club or golf industry experience is preferred. Membership in the Association of Golf Merchandisers is preferred but not required. Compensation and Benefits Base Salary: $65,000 to $75,000, commensurate with experience Performance based bonus opportunity. Comprehensive Club benefits.
