Sr. Director, Brand Strategy & Communications Role Description

We are hiring a Sr. Director of Brand Strategy & Communications to support our communications & brand strategy division and run client accounts directly. You will own a portfolio of client relationships day-to-day, set the strategic direction for every account the division touches, mentor other team members, support the broader communications team, and partner with the Director of Business Development on prospect strategy and pitches.

The ideal candidate will find powerful, creatively strategic ideas that help brands tell strong stories and define opportunities for growth in a concise and compelling manner. In your role, you will:

Client Leadership & Account Management

• Serve as lead client liaison and senior account partner on an assigned portfolio of accounts, and own retention and satisfaction across every account in the division

• Communicate with clients via Slack, Zoom, and email with urgency and follow-through

• Lead bi-weekly client meetings and keep meeting agendas and Asana current

• Keep deliverables on time and on scope across the team

• Represent the agency in key client meetings and industry events

• Identify and win scope expansions with existing clients through strategic counsel

Brand Strategy

• Develop brand architectures: discovery interviews, buyer persona profiles, positioning territories, brand principles, and messaging frameworks

• Lead marketing research, including client and target audience interviews and competitor analysis, and turn it into strategic recommendations

• Oversee brand positioning and messaging across all client accounts for consistency and sharpness

• Direct the creative team on brand identity deck development

Communications & PR

• Shape communications strategies, PR plans, key company messaging, and creative briefs

• Manage industry media relations for clients: earned placements, press release distribution, and PR reporting

• Lead, develop, and execute organic and paid marketing campaigns

• Write and oversee short-form and long-form content deliverables

• Position clients for renewable energy awards and secure speaking opportunities for their subject matter experts

• Integrate digital, social, and emerging media into client communications programs

• Provide final approval on press releases, key content, and external communications deliverables

Team Leadership & Development

• Mentor and manage select communications team members

• Support professional growth plans and a culture of collaboration, accountability, and creativity

• Support hiring and resource planning as the division scales with the agency

• Keep a fully remote team connected and responsive to day-to-day needs and requests

Business Development & Agency Growth

• Partner with the Director of Business Development on prospect strategy, proposal development, and new business pitches

• Build the agency's reputation in cleantech through conferences, speaking panels, awards, and media thought xhyhwjd leadership

• Track industry trends, emerging technologies, and shifts in the renewable energy market, and evolve agency strategies and offerings to match

Internal Agency Operations

• Develop and refine internal playbooks, communications frameworks, and process documents

• Collaborate with the Founder/CEO on agency-wide strategy, growth initiatives, and operational improvements

• Reinforce company culture and alignment across strategy, operations, and execution

Qualifications

• 6+ years of brand strategy and communications experience in a PR, marketing, or creative agency

• Deep background in Renewable Energy, Sustainability, or CleanTech (Recommended, but not required)

• Proven record of mentoring teams and shaping client strategy

• Recent hands-on experience running client accounts day to day, including media relations and campaign execution

• Exceptional client communication skills and a track record of building trusted, long-term partnerships

• Strong command of PR, communications strategy, brand architecture, and market positioning

• Comfortable balancing strategic vision with tactical execution in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Drive, Muck Rack, Asana, Slack, Microsoft Teams, and CRM systems
