Job Summary This position plans and implements an instructional program and provides related educational services for students in grades K-5. The teacher manages student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modifies instructional activities as required. The teacher may work independently or in team/departmental settings, and may be assigned to reading or technology labs. The teacher performs work under the general supervision of a principal or other designated administrator. Essential Responsibilities Implement an instructional program, providing appropriate learning for each student by differentiating instruction. Plan and deliver instruction in adherence to the Prince William County Curriculum documents regarding specific teaching assignments. Assess student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes. Plan appropriate instructional and/or learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate principles of learning, classroom organizational structures, and kind and level of materials. Manage student behavior in instructional settings to ensure a conducive learning environment; assist and participate in management of student behavior in other parts of the school, school grounds, and during lunch. Cooperate with and participate in the planning and evaluation of the school program. Request assistance of resource personnel as needed and work cooperatively to ensure an appropriate learning environment for all students. Participate in the professional development program of the schools and School Division. Coordinate instructional activities and collaborate with other professional staff both school and non school-based, as required, to maximize learning opportunities. Follow the ethics of the profession. Support parent/teacher or parent/student organizations and promote parent/teacher partnerships. Enforce policies and regulations as established by the Prince William County School Board and staff in accordance with any program guidelines. Supervise pupil activities in buildings and on grounds during and after school hours and be responsible for the conduct and safety of students in the classroom and on school grounds. Demonstrate prompt and accurate written communications and reports. Adhere to county and school disciplinary procedures. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Knowledge of the instructional process. Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment of instructional specialties to which assigned. Knowledge of pre-adolescent and adolescent growth and development. Knowledge of Prince William County Curriculum related to assignments and School Division mission, goals, and organization. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Skill in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning. Ability to plan and implement lessons based on Division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students assigned. Skill in oral and written communication; excellent human relations skills. Proficiency in oral and written communications in foreign languages if teaching a foreign language. Demonstrated musical abilities if teaching music classes. Personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability if teaching visual art. Journey‑level proficiency in trade if teaching career and technical education. Education Requirements Minimum: Bachelor's Degree. Certification and License Requirements State: Collegiate Professional, Post Graduate Professional, or appropriate vocational license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignment(s); must be eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure.
