The organization has approximately 20 employees overall, with a close-knit team of five working onsite.This is an immediate consulting need with potential for long-term permanent hire, reporting to the Director of Finance.Position OverviewThe Staff Accountant / Bookkeeper will work closely with the Director of Finance and support the day-to-day accounting, cash management, and financial operations of the business.This is a hands-on position ideal for someone comfortable working in a smaller company environment where responsibilities are broad, and priorities can shift. The successful candidate should be organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing transactional accounting while communicating with banks, vendors, and other third parties.A college degree is not required. Practical accounting/bookkeeping experience and the ability to independently manage day-to-day responsibilities are more important.Key ResponsibilitiesManage day-to-day accounts payable and accounts receivable activitiesReview, process, and upload invoices into the company's accounting/operating systemPerform bank reconciliations and investigate discrepanciesAssist with daily cash management and treasury activitiesRecord and post banking transactions accurately and in a timely mannerMonitor cash activity and assist with maintaining accurate cash balancesCommunicate with banks and other third-party providers regarding transactions, payments, cash applications, and account-related mattersMaintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentationAssist with vendor and customer account questions and reconciliationsSupport the Director of Finance with routine accounting and financial activitiesHelp ensure transactions are properly recorded, and accounting information remains current and accurateAssist with additional accounting, reporting, and administrative projects as neededQualificationsPrior experience in bookkeeping, staff accounting, or a similar hands-on accounting positionStrong working knowledge of AP, AR, bank reconciliations, and general accounting processesExperience with cash management or treasury-related activities is highly desirableComfortable working directly with banks, vendors, and other outside partiesStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial recordsOrganized and able to manage multiple responsibilities in a small-company environmentComfortable working independently while partnering closely with the Director of FinanceStrong communication and follow-throughProficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft ExcelSage Intacct experience is a plus but not requiredCollege degree is not required; relevant hands-on experience will be strongly consideredSchedule & Work EnvironmentThe company would ideally like someone who can work on-site in Westport, particularly during the training and transition period, although there is some flexibility for the right candidate for more of a hybrid schedule over time. The position will not exceed 40 hours per week and could potentially average closer to 30–35 hours per week.
