Automation Technician V

Who We Want Provide production support by performing setup, troubleshooting and operations of automated welding cells within a production facility, implementing best practices, proactively assessing welding/robotic applications, and mentoring Auto Technician I-IV team members. Responsibilities Mentor Automation Technician level I-IV members as well as Weld Technicians. Execute with proficiency all duties and responsibilities of an Automation Technician IV. Follow all safety procedures and protocols while servicing or maintaining equipment. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in troubleshooting using electrical and mechanical prints. Use electrical system knowledge and schematics to troubleshoot components and circuits, including circuit breakers, transformers, and junction boxes, under intermediate-level electrician supervision. Perform tasks involving drive systems, relays, boards, motors, and intermediate programming of robots across all robotic applications. Conduct basic offline programming using RoboCAD/Robot Studio, including I/O simulation, move creation/modification, zone setups, and intermediate weld troubleshooting. Rebuild or reload schedules as directed by Weld Engineers using RAFT and adjust Emhart DA and MIG weld schedules accordingly. Perform calibration of squeeze force on spot weld guns and troubleshoot various welding issues, including drawn arc stud welding, projection welds, and basic programming. Use a range of electrical and diagnostic tools (hand measuring instruments, multimeters, ammeters, welding current meters, micro-ohm meters) for testing and adjustments. Participate in setup and troubleshooting of poke-yoke systems and assist in shimming processes. Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Physically able to stand for 8-10 hours a day and perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Read, write, speak, and understand English at a level sufficient to safely and effectively perform job duties. High School Diploma or equivalent (required). Industrial truck and aerial platform licenses (required). Knowledge of PLC systems and intermediate programming methods (required). Industrial Maintenance / Machine Repair / Electrician Journeyman certification, a 2-year technical degree, or equivalent work experience (required). Minimum 3 years of Weld Technician, Automation Technician, or equivalent experience (required). Mechatronics certificate or journeyperson card (preferred). Associate’s degree in mechatronics, controls, or maintenance technology (preferred). Minimum 15 years combined experience and education as an Automation Technician or equivalent (preferred). Strong electrical and mechanical background in industrial and automated systems. Intermediate weld troubleshooting skills for all welding applications (drawn arc, GMAW, resistance welding, projection welding, pneumatic systems). Ability to use toner: hand measuring tools, multimeters, ammeters, welding current meters, micro-ohm meters, and fault isolation between wires. Understand shimming processes and poke-yoke applications. Proficiency in PLC and intermediate programming, including ladder logic troubleshooting, I/O block setup, HMI system troubleshooting, and program manipulation. Experience with robots, including offline programming and configuration of tool changers and external axes. Familiarity with TCP creation and verification; experience with ABB Bullseye system is a plus. When and Where This will be a 1st Shift / 6:30 AM–2:30 PM M‑F position located at our plant in Holland, MI.
