Trauma Registrar

Job Summary:


The Trauma Registrar is responsible for accurately identifying and abstracting trauma patient data into the Trauma Registry using TraumaBase. This role involves assigning ICD-10 and AIS codes, calculating Injury Severity Scores (ISS), maintaining data quality and integrity, and supporting trauma-related reporting and performance improvement initiatives. The position requires independent work with minimal supervision and adherence to confidentiality and regulatory standards in a remote or onsite setting.

Responsibilities:

• Identify trauma patients for inclusion in the Trauma Registry.
• Abstract trauma patient data using TraumaBase software.
• Assign ICD-10 and AIS codes to trauma cases.
• Calculate Injury Severity Scores (ISS) for trauma patients.
• Maintain trauma registry quality and ensure data integrity.
• Validate registry data and resolve any data edits or discrepancies.
• Support reporting requirements for NTDB, TQIP, NORTR, and state agencies.
• Identify and document Performance Improvement (PI) opportunities within the trauma registry data.
• Generate reports for the Trauma Committee and hospital leadership.
• Maintain compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA, and regulatory standards.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5+ years of Trauma Registry experience.
• Direct TraumaBase experience (mandatory).
• 2+ years of AIS coding experience within a Trauma Registry.
• ICD-10 coding experience.
• Injury Severity Score (ISS) calculation experience.
• Ability to work independently with minimal training.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
• Own computer equipment and reliable high-speed internet connection.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Associate Degree in Allied Health, Anatomy & Physiology, Health Information Management, or related field.
• CSTR, RHIT, CCS, or AIS Certification.
• Experience with EPIC and Cerner systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Backup internet connection to minimize downtime.
• Webcam and microphone for virtual meetings and training.

Special Considerations:

• Full dedication to the assignment during scheduled working hours is required.
• Concurrent employment is allowed only if it does not overlap with the required schedule.
• Remote candidates must provide their own computer equipment and maintain a dedicated workspace with reliable internet.
• Confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies are mandatory.

Scheduling:

• Full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time.
• Remote work is supported; onsite work is optional for local candidates.
• 13-week contract with potential extension.
