Department of Professional and Financial Regulation - State Board of Nursing Job Class Code: 6546 Grade: 16 (Administrative Services) Salary: $18.76-$27.03/Hour Location: Augusta, ME Opening Date: June 15, 2026 Closing Date: June 30, 2026 This is a classification in the Office & Administrative Support Job Family which manages systems to track and monitor applications for licensure of practical nurses and registered professional nurses by examination; verify the identity and education of all applicants for licensure by examination; determine applicant eligibility, and make applicants eligible, to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX); process and deposit all licensing fees; correspond with all applicants for licensure by examination; develop materials and memoranda for presentation to the Assistant Executive Director; attend the Board meetings to answer questions; follow-up on any issues identified by the Assistant Executive Director and the Board; make licensing recommendations to the Assistant Executive Director and the Board; issue licenses to recent graduates of educational programs in nursing, both in-state and out-of-state, and for other applicants who must complete the NCLEX exam as part of the endorsement process, upon successfully passing the exam. Primary responsibilities include: Review and approve applications to issue eligibility status and nursing licenses consistent with Board laws, rules and provisions of the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact to RNs and LPNs. Determine and recommend eligibility for applicant testing accommodations. Determine eligibility for a multistate license based on knowledge and interpretation of Nurse Licensure Compact laws, rules and regulations (32 M.R.S. Chapter 31, Subchapter 2-A; The Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administrators Rules; Nursys Nurse Licensure Compact Policies; and Board Office NLC Procedures). Provide to applicants and licensees an explanation of the Board's interpretation of applicable statutes and rules. Attend Board meetings and provide oral presentations and respond to questions regarding applications for licensure by examination and licensure processes. Independently analyze and identify issues that might affect an applicant's suitability for licensure. Research, compile, and analyze complex licensure requirements and report trends to the Executive Director and the Board. Develop and maintain timely application processing systems. Develop and recommend new work methods and administrative policies/procedures to improve existing licensure processes. Educate the public regarding the Board's licensing laws, rules, and processes. Enter, allocate, and deposit all fees and payments made to the Board for licensing and other services. Skills or knowledge required: Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations for processing Board of Nursing exam applications, including the uniform licensure requirements for issuance of a multistate license, and the requirements for applicants with nursing service in the medical corps. Knowledge of the Nursys National Database. Knowledge of the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC). Knowledge of the Agency License Management System (ALMS), including entering information, confirming information, and updating information. Knowledge of public relations techniques and ability to interact with the public. Knowledge of the Administrative Procedures Act. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to write clearly and effectively. Ability to identify and analyze issues, reach logical conclusions, and make sound decisions/recommendations. Minimum qualifications: Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of modern office practices to perform complex, varied office support tasks, and 2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures.
