- Maintain a substantial caseload of undergraduate students for student success advising.
- Provide proactive, developmental advising focused on academic progress, goal-setting, decision-making, and persistence.
- Utilizing motivational, strengths-based approaches and coaching methods embedded into success advising practices
- Meet individually with students to assess academic progress, identify challenges, and develop strategies for success.
- Support students in navigating institutional expectations, academic policies, and pathways to degree completion.
- Monitor student engagement and follow up with students who may benefit from additional support.
- Under leadership of the Director, serve as the primary coordinator for the undergraduate unregistered students list at the Redlands main campus each term, including:
- identifying and tracking students who have not registered for the upcoming term;
- coordinating targeted outreach to encourage registration and re-engagement;
- meeting with students to identify barriers to enrollment;
- collaborating with faculty and relevant departments to assist students in resolving registration issues;
- referring students to appropriate resources (financial aid, advising, student accounts, etc.) to support re-enrollment;
- documenting outreach efforts and tracking outcomes related to registration and persistence.
- Collaborate with the advising team at the URLA/Woodbury campus for cohesive, aligned
- Serve as the primary Student Success Center advisor liaison to the College of Arts and Sciences, or other programs at discretion of SSC leadership, for undergraduate success advising.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to support student success initiatives and address emerging student needs.
- Communicate trends, concerns, and patterns related to student success and persistence within undergraduate populations to SSC leadership.
- Support coordination of student success strategies aligned with student populations in undergraduate academic programs.
- Partner with faculty to support early identification and intervention for students experiencing academic difficulty.
- Work closely with advisor who oversees academic recovery and probation to coordinate support.
- Deliver workshops and group advising sessions on academic success topics, institutional processes, and student preparation for academic advising with faculty advisors.
- Support divisional and institution wide signature events, recruitment efforts, and programming.
- Serve as a resource for referrals to tutoring, writing support, academic coaching, mentoring, accessibility services, counseling, basic need support, and other campus
- Participate in cross-functional student success initiatives and retention strategies.
- Respond to Academic Progress Reports (APRs) and other early alert indicators.
- Conduct timely outreach to students identified at risk or as in need of support.
- Schedule and facilitate student meetings focused on identifying barriers and developing success strategies.
- Monitor follow up actions and student engagement Academic Advising (As Assigned).
- Provide primary academic advising for students on assigned caseload as determined by Student Success leadership when needed.
- Support students with degree planning, course selection, and understanding program requirements.
- Collaborate with other success advisors and faculty advisors to ensure accurate and consistent advising practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of program requirements and institutional policies and procedures.
- Collaborate and partner with other campus departments, URLA/Woodbury campus advising team, and units within Student Affairs to ensure robust student engagement and retention initiatives for all students.
- Supervise graduate assistants at discretion of SSC leadership to ensure enhanced student success support.
- Support graduate assistants in developing professional skills related to advising and student support.
- Maintain accurate records of student interactions, advising notes, and case management documentation within institutional systems.
- Monitor outcomes related to unregistered student outreach and re-enrollment efforts.
- Contribute to continuous data-informed improvement of student success programs and advising practices.
- Support summer programs and early onboarding initiatives.
- Participate in orientation, onboarding and transition programming.
- Contribute to the development of student-facing resources and communication materials.
- Serve on committees or working groups related to student success initiatives and retention efforts as assigned by SSC leadership or VP of Student Affairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field strongly preferred.
- 2–3 years of experience in higher education advising, student success, or other student services.
- Experience supporting undergraduate student populations
- Experience supervising and training student workers or graduate assistants.
- Familiarity with early alert processes and systems
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including scheduling, data tracking, and use of learning technologies.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity-minded and inclusive educational practices.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends, including during summer programs.
- A valid California Class C CA drivers’ license with a good driving record is required.
- Masters Degree preferred.
- Formal training in academic advising and coaching.
- Experience using student success software, LMS platforms, or data analytics tools (e.g., Navigate or similar).
- Experience supporting first-generation, underrepresented, or neurodiverse student populations.
- Competencies in best practices for academic advising and student success.
- Ability to design and implement workshops.
- Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced academic environment.
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret and communicate data.

Definition Of Classification
The Student Success Advisor provides proactive, holistic student success advising focused primarily on undergraduate persistence, academic progress, and timely degree completion. This position plays a central role in supporting a large population of undergraduate students through developmental advising, early intervention, and coordinated support strategies. The Advisor maintains a caseload of undergraduate students for student success advising and is the advising team’s primary liaison for the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) population. This role serves to support coordination of student success initiatives, communication, and intervention strategies between the Student Success Center and undergraduate academic programs on the Redlands main campus. The Advisor also holds primary responsibility for coordinating outreach and intervention for undergraduate students at the Redlands campus who are on the “unregistered list” each term. This includes leading re-enrollment outreach efforts, identifying barriers to registration, and coordinating with other advisors and campus partners to support student re-engagement and persistence. In addition to undergraduate success advising, the Advisor may be assigned a caseload as the primary academic advisor for select programs outside of CAS, based on institutional needs and at the discretion of Student Success Center leadership. The Advisor may supervise graduate assistants who provide student success support. This role
plays a key part in responding to Academic Progress Reports (APR) and other early alert indicators. The position is responsible for designing and delivering workshops, facilitating group advising sessions, and implementing proactive outreach strategies to support student engagement among undergraduate students.
This role collaborates closely with faculty, academic advisors, academic support services, and accessibility services to ensure students receive coordinated, individualized support. The position emphasizes developmental and holistic advising practices that build students’ capacity for self advocacy, academic planning, and long-term success.

This is an in-person, student-facing position. Standard office and field setting. Duties performed are primarily in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer workstation or in meetings. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort. Must be willing and able to travel and to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends, as required.

Incumbents regularly sit for long periods; walk short distances on a regular basis; may travel to various locations to attend meetings and conduct work; use hands and fingers to operate an electronic keyboard or other office machines; reach with hands and arms; stoop or kneel or crouch to file; climb stairs; peak clearly and distinctly to answer telephones and to provide information; see to read fine print and operate computer; hear and understand voices over telephone and in person; and lift, carry and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.

HIRING RANGE: Anticipated hiring range is near or at the minimum of the classification, commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training. The University of Redlands is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range considers the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The full salary range for this position is defined as the Full Pay Range. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is defined as the
Hiring Range . Placement within the Hiring Range is determined by internal equity, and relevant qualifications.

PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAMS: For certain positions typically in Public Safety, Facilities, Athletics and Information Technology Services departments, employment is contingent upon a candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs. Public Safety Officers, in addition to a pre-employment physical exam, will also be required to pass a psychological evaluation.
