DOC Special Treatment Center/Dixon Psychiatric Unit SuperintendentThe Dixon Correctional Center is seeking a highly motivated professional to serve as the Superintendent of the Dixon Special Treatment Center/Dixon Psychiatric Unit at the facility. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and will be able to work with interdepartmental staff within a correctional facility and with other governmental and law enforcement agencies. The Dixon Correctional Center is distinct in its size as IDOC's largest medium security facility and is unique in its diversity. The administration of the facility is divided into specialized areas that include units housing general population individuals in custody, older individuals with special needs, individuals with disabilities, as well as an Infirmary. The Special Treatment Center (STC) is a medium security center that houses both mentally ill and intellectually disabled individuals. The Dixon Psychiatric Unit (DPU) is a multi-security unit which serves as IDOC's primary psychiatric correctional facility. Both the Special Treatment Center and Dixon Psychiatric Unit serve the needs of individuals who have mental health and intellectual disabilities, by providing programs geared specifically toward a "special needs" population as well as a therapeutic environment.Essential FunctionsServes as the Unit Superintendent of the Special Treatment Center and Psychiatric Unit.Serves as full line supervisor.Administratively responsible and accountable for the execution of policies and procedures in the management of the institution while serving as Duty Warden.Instructs and counsels individuals in custody by holding regular interviews by request in order to provide assistance to individuals in custody with problems.As Employee Review Hearing Officer, hears cases and prepares a follow-up-report for the Chief Administrative Officer citing a recommendation on the level of discipline to be imposed.Conducts routine inspection tours of the institution, including the inspection of individual in custody living quarters and conducts system checks.Answers correspondence and speaks to lay and professional groups regarding the various programs of the Unit.Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.Minimum QualificationsRequires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in Sociology, Penology, Behavioral Sciences or a related field. Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience supervising in a correctional facility.Preferred QualificationsPrefers at least three (3) years of experience in applying principles and practices of corrections facility administration. Prefers three (3) years of experience working with individual in custody transfers, housing and work assignments. Prefers at least three (3) years of working with and maintaining confidential information. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience interpreting labor agreements. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience using a Disciplinary Tracking type software program. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience utilizing Offender 360 (O360) or similar like program. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience analyzing administrative problems and adopting an effective course of action. Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff, individuals in custody, government officials, and members of the public.Conditions of EmploymentRequires ability to carry a firearm. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited. Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non- State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non- State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine. Required to utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency, productivity, and digital transformation efforts within the department.
