Welder At NIX Construction in Ogden Utah, welding is not just a shop job hidden behind four walls. Our welders are out in the field helping build real infrastructure that keeps projects moving and crews working safely. We are looking for a welder who can safely work alongside heavy equipment operators, laborers, and foremen on underground construction projects. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and built for someone who likes working outdoors, staying busy, and continuously improving their craft. What You'll Be Doing Perform welding tasks on underground construction and utility projects Safely work around heavy equipment, bore equipment, rigging operations, and active construction zones Read and follow instructions from foremen and crew leadership Inspect tools, welding equipment, leads, and PPE before use Assist with fabrication, repairs, and installation work in the field Maintain a clean and organized work area and welding setup Help identify safety concerns and correct hazards before work begins Support the crew with additional labor tasks as needed Learn new construction methods, tools, and equipment through hands-on work What We're Looking For We want someone who: Takes pride in quality workmanship Understands that safety comes before speed Works well with a crew and communicates clearly Shows initiative and looks for ways to help without waiting to be told Can adapt to changing jobsite conditions and priorities Wants to continue learning and developing their welding skills Requirements 7018 SMAW Certification required or ability to obtain certification 13 years of welding experience preferred Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and active excavation sites Strong awareness of surroundings and jobsite safety practices Ability to follow direction and work as part of a team Reliable transportation and dependable attendance Preferred Qualifications Previous underground construction or heavy civil construction experience Experience with rigging and field fabrication Familiarity with construction tools and equipment Additional welding certifications are a plus Physical Requirements Stand and work for extended periods Lift and carry materials weighing 50100 lbs Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in uneven terrain Work outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind Safely work around dust, noise, fumes, and heavy equipment What the Job Feels Like Boots-on-the-ground construction work A mix of welding, teamwork, problem-solving, and field work Fast-moving projects where no two days are exactly the same Working with crews that depend on each other to get the job done right Why NIX Construction?
