Organization: Main OR Job Summary The Surgical Technologist II facilitates patient care by assisting physicians/nursing staff before, during and after surgical procedures, creating and maintaining a sterile field and providing instruments and supplies required by the surgeons. The Surgical Tech II is capable of performing most cases in a given service/shift. Active NBSTSA or NCCT certification is required. Perioperative areas recruiting: Nights & Weekends Team; Float Pool Team; MCE OR Team – Plastics, Oral/Maxillofacial, ENT; Robotics (Urology, GYN, Thoracic, General and Colorectal). Position Shift Full Time. 10 or 12 hour shifts. Additional details/options to be discussed during interview. Sign On Bonus $20,000 (taxable) bonus paid over 2 years of employment. Not applicable to current or former VUMC staff working in the past year. Relocation Bonus Up to $10,000 (taxable) within 45 days of hire, based on relocation mileage. Eligibility requires relocation from greater than 100 miles. Not applicable to current or former VUMC staff in the past year. About the Team Perioperative Services is a dynamic department with over 800 employees and 68 adult and 19 pediatric operating rooms. The team participates in cutting‑edge surgical technology, assisting in procedures such as organ transplants, joint replacements, minimally invasive cardio‑thoracic/vascular surgery, and reconstructive plastic surgery. Position Qualifications Graduate of an approved specific discipline OR successful completion of a surgical technologist training program while serving in any branch of the U.S. armed forces. Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience. Certification from one of the listed issuers: NBSTSA CST or NCCT TS‑C. Exception: No certification required for graduates of armed‑forces surgical technologist training program. Active NBSTSA or NCCT certification. Key Responsibilities Facilitate patient care by assisting the surgeon before, during and after surgical procedures. Plan, set up, perform and clean up the assigned surgical procedure as a circulator and as a scrub tech. Perform sharp, sponge and instrument counts according to policy. Demonstrate knowledge and application of aseptic principles in creating and maintaining the sterile field. Additional duties may be assigned. Technical Capabilities Surgical Equipment Knowledge (Novice): Basic use and knowledge of performance criteria and limitations. Procedures Knowledge (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience with procedural knowledge. Operating Room Care (Novice): Fundamental proficiency under direction of others. Environmental Sterility & Safety (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience. Inventory Management (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience with concepts, tools, processes and policies. Surgical Technology (Novice): Fundamental proficiency in moderate tasks. Equipment Maintenance (Fundamental Awareness): Limited experience with maintenance activities.
