Project Manager - Industrial Hygiene

The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking a Hazardous Building Material/Industrial Hygiene Project Manager for immediate employment. The position reports to the Boston, MA, Chelmsford, MA, or Manchester, NH office and requires at least 8 years of experience in building hazardous material surveys, abatement oversight, and industrial hygiene projects. The role combines technical project execution with business development, requiring a balance of project management, technical expertise, and business acumen. Responsibilities Managing and/or self-performing hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects for private and public‑sector clients. Collaborating with licensed professionals and regulatory specialists on survey, investigation, abatement, and remediation work. Providing technical and regulatory leadership throughout New England, the U.S., and internationally. Developing proposals, including scope, budgets, and schedules for surveys, design, and abatement. Managing or reviewing technical work and field activities to ensure compliance with contract scope, budget, schedule, and regulatory standards. Reviewing, coordinating, or preparing written reports, work plans, and technical memoranda; analyzing data and developing conclusions. Working collaboratively with other EHS, Environment, and internal business lines. Proactively identifying opportunities to increase project efficiencies and add value to client services. Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities to support department growth. Candidate Expectations The successful candidate will independently manage field efforts and deliver associated reports for a wide variety of hazardous building material and industrial hygiene projects. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for engaging team members, clients, and stakeholders. Candidates must rigorously apply safety policies, manage quality within AECOM’s Quality Management System, and demonstrate excellent organization, time‑management, flexibility, and mentorship capabilities. Minimum Qualifications BA/BS with 8+ years of experience or equivalent education and experience. Direct technical experience with building hazardous materials (asbestos, lead paint, etc.). Industrial hygiene, mold, or indoor air quality experience. Completion of a 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training. EPA AHERA Asbestos Inspector Certification. New England State licenses and certifications for asbestos (MA, ME, NH, CT) or eligibility to obtain them. Valid driver’s license and ability to pass AECOM’s motor vehicle records review. U.S. citizenship required. Preferred Qualifications EPA Asbestos Management Planner, Project Designer, Supervisor, or Lead Risk Assessor certifications. New England State Asbestos Designer licenses (MA, CT, ME). Experience in strategy and growth plan development and execution. Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional. Experience developing scope, fee, and terms for interdisciplinary hazardous material proposals. Ability to adapt to fast‑paced environments and shifting priorities. Experience interacting with architects and engineers on building renovation designs requiring asbestos/hazardous material program requirements, drawings, specifications, and design narratives. Experience managing and mentoring technical teams and projects of varying scale. Experience managing scope, budget, staff administration, and development. Experience building client relationships, business development, and client management. Highly effective verbal and written communication; excellent technical writing; strong organization and multi‑tasking skills. Internally driven, self‑starter, and team‑oriented. Additional Information Relocation is not available for this position. Sponsorship is not available for this position. Willing to travel out‑of‑town for durations ranging from approximately one week to three months, as needed.
