Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer - Buildings

Job Overview WSP is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Electrical Engineer to join the Property & Buildings team in California. This senior role may be based at any WSP office in California. Responsibilities Coordinate, review, and approve electrical design plans to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations. Apply advanced electrical engineering techniques across all project phases, including concept development, preliminary and final design, procurement, construction, and operations. Plan and incorporate future‑ready design strategies that address safety, functionality, resiliency, and long‑term performance of building systems. Participate from project inception through completion, supporting the management of electrical design and construction activities. Oversee and mentor cross‑functional engineering teams on mid‑ to large‑scale projects, including budgets, schedules, resource planning, quality control, and technical execution. Prepare and review technical documentation, including reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and presentations. Provide key technical input on pursuits and proposals, supporting business development efforts and client interviews. Develop and maintain strong client relationships and collaborate with internal leadership and external partners. Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making in alignment with WSP’s Code of Conduct and corporate policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required to support business needs. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering. 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience as an Electrical Engineer. Extensive knowledge of electrical design for building projects, especially within education, institutional, industrial, or commercial sectors, including experience with DSA‑regulated projects. Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulations. Experience with electrical planning, design, and construction management across renovation and new‑build projects. Proven ability to lead teams, manage multiple concurrent projects, and deliver high‑quality results. Well‑established professional presence with a strong local network. Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with WSP health, safety, and conduct policies. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license required. LEED AP certification. 8+ years of Project Management experience on complex building projects. Experience supporting client pursuits, proposals, and business growth initiatives.
