Shared Living Provider
Neighbornv
Open Your Home. Share Your Life. Help Someone Belong. The Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) is looking for compassionate community members who are interested in opening their homes to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities or elders who need daily support, connection, and a safe place to belong. Shared Living is more than renting out a room. It is welcoming someone into your home and everyday life—not as a patient, not as a project, but as a person who deserves dignity, independence, friendship, and community. A Shared Living Provider, or SLP, provides daily support to someone who lives in the provider’s home. The person may need help with daily routines, community access, transportation, meals, appointments, health and safety needs, social connection, or learning skills to live as independently as possible. This is a good fit for someone who wants to make a meaningful difference from home and has the heart, stability, and experience to support another person as part of everyday household life. About the Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada Established in 2015, N4 is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to connect people living in Northern Nevada for inclusive, community-based services, volunteer opportunities, and affordable transportation. We create a village of people and organizations through community activities, transportation services, a time exchange, and support programs for people with disabilities and older adults. What Is Shared Living? Shared Living is a home-based support model for someone who benefits from daily support but does not typically need a group home, facility-based care, paid 24‑hour shift staffing, or awake overnight staff. The person receiving services lives in the Shared Living Provider’s home and participates in ordinary household and community life. This may include sharing meals, attending family or community activities, learning home management skills, going to appointments, building friendships, and being included in daily routines. For this recruitment campaign, N4 is especially seeking non‑family Shared Living Providers who are open to welcoming someone new into their home. Who We Are Looking For N4 is especially interested in recruiting community members who are retired from, currently working in, or experienced in fields such as: Health care, nursing, therapy, or medical support. Human services, social work, case management, or community support. Education, special education, or disability services. Behavioral health, caregiving, foster care, or aging services. Direct support, residential support, personal care, or related community-based work. You may be single, married, partnered, an empty nester, retired, working from home, or living in a household with children. What matters most is that you have a safe and stable home, sound judgment, patience, flexibility, and a genuine interest in helping someone belong. This opportunity may be a strong fit for people who: Have experience supporting people with disabilities, elders, or people with complex needs. Have extra space in their home and want to use it for meaningful impact. Believe people should live in real homes and be included in real communities. Are patient, open‑minded, flexible, and good at problem‑solving. Enjoy teaching, coaching, and encouraging independence. Are comfortable working as part of a support team. Can provide structure without being overly controlling. Want meaningful connection in their home and daily life. Understand that support is about dignity, not doing everything for someone. Counties Served N4 is recruiting Shared Living Providers across 12 counties in Northern Nevada: Washoe, Carson City, Storey, Douglas, Churchill, Lyon, Humboldt, Elko, Pershing, White Pine, Lander, and Eureka counties. What Shared Living Providers Do Depending on the person’s needs, interests, and support plan, a Shared Living Provider may: Provide a safe, stable, welcoming home environment. Encourage independence by teaching, coaching, and supporting rather than simply doing for. Help with daily routines such as meals, hygiene, dressing, laundry, cleaning, and household chores. Support activities of daily living and personal care when needed. Assist with grocery shopping, cooking, budgeting, scheduling, and home management. Provide or coordinate transportation to appointments, errands, work, volunteering, recreation, and community activities. Help the person build friendships and stay connected with family, neighbors, and community members. Support participation in hobbies, recreation, faith communities, clubs, events, and everyday community life. Help with health and safety needs, including medical appointments and follow‑up. Support medication routines when trained and authorized. Implement the person’s Person‑Centered Plan and support goals. Complete daily documentation, service logs, progress notes, and incident reports. Communicate with N4 and the person’s support team. Participate in required training, meetings, monitoring visits, and quality assurance activities. Levels of Support Each person’s support needs are different. Shared Living support levels are based on the person’s skills, independence, risks, and needs as determined through the person‑centered planning process. Tier 1 generally applies when a person is mostly independent and needs minimal support. Tier 2 generally applies when a person needs a moderate level of support, prompting, check‑ins, or guidance. Tier 3 generally applies when a person has substantial support needs and requires more assistance, supervision, or support related to medical, behavioral, or physical needs. Compensation Shared Living Providers are independent contractors, not employees of N4. Shared Living Providers receive a flat monthly payment or stipend based on the person’s approved support needs, service authorization, and contractor agreement. Payment varies depending on the person’s level of support. The person receiving services pays their agreed‑upon share of room, board, utilities, food, or other household expenses. Room and board must follow applicable program requirements and may not exceed the person’s proportionate share of household expenses. Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Must have a high school diploma or GED. Must be able to pass required criminal background checks and exclusion screenings. Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Must have good judgment and be able to respond appropriately in urgent or crisis situations. Must have a positive, respectful, person‑centered attitude. Must have a stable, safe, and appropriate home environment. Must complete N4’s application, screening, home study, and approval process. Must complete required training before services begin and maintain required ongoing training. Must maintain current First Aid and CPR certification. Must maintain current COVID vaccination (within the past 12 months). Must be able to implement the person’s Person‑Centered Plan. Must have a current Nevada driver’s license, vehicle registration, insurance, and reliable transportation. Must maintain homeowner’s, renter’s, or personal property insurance. Must be willing to follow N4 policies, state requirements, documentation requirements, and the Shared Living Provider agreement. Training and Support Shared Living Providers are not expected to do this alone. N4 provides training, guidance, monitoring, and ongoing support. Required training may include disability services, rights and dignity, emergency preparedness, abuse and neglect reporting, medication support when applicable, confidentiality, documentation, person‑centered planning, and hands‑on person‑specific training before the person moves in. This May Be a Good Fit If You Believe… People deserve to live in homes, not facilities. Support should be built around dignity, choice, and independence. Community is something we create together. A shared meal, a ride to an appointment, a walk around the neighborhood, a movie night, a birthday celebration, or a trip to the farmers market can all be part of helping someone build a good life. Shared Living is not just about providing care. It is about making room for someone to belong. How to Learn More N4 is recruiting non‑family Shared Living Providers throughout Northern Nevada.
