Assistant Professor - M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience

Assistant Professor – M.S. in Cognitive Neuroscience Performs teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise. Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions. The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Cognitive Neuroscience with a required start date of August 2026. This position is part of a strategic initiative to expand interdisciplinary research and training in neuroscience and the computational sciences. The appointment will be in the M.S. Program in Cognitive Neuroscience. Responsibilities include research, teaching, mentoring, and service. The candidate is expected to generate an active, externally funded research program and to participate in graduate teaching and research training. Teaching duties may include courses in computational methods and advanced courses in neuroscience. The role is part of the Simons Empire Faculty Fellows initiative and requires a joint application to the 3‑year Visiting Scholar position at the Center for Computational Neuroscience (CCN) at the Flatiron Institute. The incumbent will split time between teaching (50%) at CUNY and conducting research at CCN (50%). After the initial 3‑year visiting scholar appointment, the faculty member will remain at CUNY and take on a full teaching workload.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct research in computational neuroscience, building models that are motivated by fundamental principles to provide insight into perception, cognition, and behavior. Publish research in refereed scientific and technical journals and present at scientific conferences. Provide publicly available software for use by the scientific community and support its public use. Assist in the organization of CCN‑related workshops, conferences, group meetings and seminars. Actively work with and provide support to postdoctoral Flatiron research fellows and visiting graduate and undergraduate students. Mentor summer students and assist in the organization of summer programs. Perform other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ph.D. in Physics, Math, Engineering, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Psychology, or Computer Science. Postgraduate research experience (typically 2–6 years) in computational neuroscience or related field. A record of excellence in scientific publication and a potential for external funding. Ability to conduct original and outstanding research in neuroscience. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team environment. Commitment to teaching and mentoring at the graduate level, with the ability to teach graduate‑level courses in cognitive neuroscience, computational methods, statistics, or related subjects. Legally authorized to work in the United States on a full‑time basis.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The annual compensation range for this 0.5 Full time equivalent position is $67,500 – $82,500 in addition to the CUNY Graduate Center faculty salary.
