Youth Development Supervisor

Incumbent serves as Youth Development Supervisor for Tippecanoe County Youth Services Residential Services, responsible for supporting, supervising and overseeing direct care staff while ensuring quality care and treatment of youth.

Duties include:

• Maintaining responsibility for growth and development of twenty plus Youth Development Specialists and Workers in day-to-day direct supervision.
• Ensuring accurate and timely flow of communication with Leadership Team, assigned staff, and Executive Director.
• Coordinating and directing active participation with youth in programming.
• Ensuring Independent Living (IL) Skills development for youth occurs in addition to other specialized skill development needs.
• Demonstrating knowledge of evidence-based programs and best practices for youth and families.
• Ensuring compliance with practices of DBT, Five Domains of Wellbeing, Motivational Interviewing, Interactive Journaling, Youth Competency Assessment and other evidence-based programming.
• Developing residential schedule for routine day to day programming and special occasions.
• Ensuring compliance with all accreditation, contract, licensing and policy standards.
• Ensuring youth in care have basic needs met.
• Maintaining responsibility for Youth Development Specialists' and Workers' schedule.
• Complying with, developing, implementing and ensuring compliance by all staff of behavioral modification programs for youth.
• Working cooperatively with Residential and Community-Based Services Director, Operations Director and Executive Director.
• Coordinating all residents' transportation to various locations.
• Demonstrating professionalism in interactions with staff, youth, peers, guests, families, volunteers, donors, placing agencies and vendors.
• Facilitating staffing meetings as assigned.
• Completing charting and other notes/reports detailing behavior of individual residents and staff.
• Assisting Residential and Executive Directors in identifying and implementing special programs.
• Inspecting grounds for potential damages and repair problems.
• Performing related duties as assigned.

Requirements include:

• Bachelor's Degree and one year of experience working in a residential setting or Associates Degree, with 2 or more years of experience working in a residential setting.
• Ability to complete all required certifications and training programs. Certification or ability to be certified in CPR/First Responder.
• Thorough knowledge of best practices for supervising and engaging youth in residential treatment settings.
• Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to accurately complete required reports.
• Ability to supervise others, including providing objective interventions, feedback and monitoring.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, schools, Probation Officers, related social agencies, and the public.
• Ability to deal swiftly, rationally and decisively with potentially violent individuals and de-escalate volatile situations.
• Ability to provide public access to and or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records.
• Ability to comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
• Ability to occasionally work extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and a demonstrated safe driving record.

Incumbent performs duties in accordance with well-established procedures and personnel policies, exercising judgment in supervising and disciplining residents. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment, achievement of desired results, and overall adherence with Department policies.

Incumbent maintains communication with co-workers, other County departments, schools, Probation Officers, related social agencies, and the public for purposes of exchanging and explaining information and coordinating client services and activities. Incumbent's work may occasionally involve non-routine problem solving to gain cooperation of potentially violent residents in situations that may jeopardize the safety of incumbent or others. Incumbent reports directly to the Executive Director.

Incumbent performs duties in a youth residential treatment center involving normal hazards associated with at-risk adolescents, such as verbal abuse, communicable diseases and potentially violent/hostile individuals. Incumbent duties involve lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, driving, handling/grasping objects, and hearing sounds and communication. Incumbent is periodically exposed to violent residents and occasionally works extended, weekend and/or evening hours.
