About the Role
The Company is seeking a General Counsel to join its team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the senior staff, providing legal and compliance advice on a wide range of issues. This includes managing in-house legal staff and outside counsel, addressing complex contractual, transactional, regulatory, and agency management issues, and ensuring legal compliance to limit risk exposure. The General Counsel will also be responsible for drafting and negotiating legal documents for real estate transactions and public-private partnerships, as well as overseeing the Trust's internal governance policies and managing all legal matters related to the organization's activities. Applicants must have a JD from an accredited law school, be admitted to the NYS Bar, and have at least ten years of experience in a legal role, with a preference for those with a background in commercial real estate and experience in representing not-for-profit or governmental entities. The role requires excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to interact with a diverse range of stakeholders. The General Counsel will also be involved in strategic decision-making, monitoring legal developments, and managing the Trust's risk and insurance programs. The position demands a professional with superior judgment, the ability to manage and mitigate risk, and a commitment to the values of inclusion and diversity.
