Live-In Resident Assistant (RA) – Housing & Residence LifeAlabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA), Birmingham, AlabamaThe Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) is seeking dedicated, responsible, and student-centered individuals to serve as Live-In Resident Assistants (RAs) within our Housing & Residence Life program. ASFA is Alabama's only public arts-focused school serving students in grades 7–12, with a residential program for students in grades 9–12 from across the state.Live-In Resident Assistants play a vital role in supporting the safety, structure, engagement, and overall residential experience of our boarding students. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about youth development, student support, leadership, mentoring, and community building.The Live-In Resident Assistant (RA) is a full-time, live-in residential position responsible for helping maintain a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment for high school boarding students. RAs assist with student supervision, residential operations, programming, community development, and policy enforcement while serving as positive role models for students.This position is a 40-hour-per-week role, primarily focused on evening coverage, and includes some weekend work as needed to support residential operations, student programming, and community needs.This full-time, live-in position includes the following:On-campus housing providedMeal access provided during the academic week based on the school dining scheduleParking providedCompensation providedFree laundry, internet, and cablePrimary ResponsibilitiesStudent Supervision & Community StandardsSupport student engagement, structure, organization, and accountability within the residence hallHelp maintain a safe, respectful, and well-managed residential environmentUphold ASFA Housing & Residence Life policies and expectationsAssist with student discipline and behavioral accountability as neededServe as a visible and approachable adult presence for boarding studentsResidence Hall OperationsConduct room checksConduct roll callMonitor and help oversee co-ed lounges and shared student spacesCoordinate and support designated clean lounge daysLock and secure the residence hall floor as needed, particularly during coverage gapsAssist with early holiday return check-ins to ensure smooth and organized student arrival processesProvide on-site support during emergency weather days or other urgent situations, including communication and coordination as neededStudent Engagement, Programming & Community DevelopmentPlan, host, and support student programming that promotes community, engagement, and positive residential experiencesAssist with weekend programming and student engagement effortsSupport programming and oversight in co-ed lounges and shared residential spacesMeet and collaborate with Residence Life Council to support student leadership and community developmentHelp foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging residential communityHealth, Safety & Wellness SupportAssist with medication-related procedures in accordance with ASFA protocols and staff guidanceSupport student well-being by communicating concerns appropriately and following established protocolsRespond appropriately to student concerns, emergencies, and residential incidentsTeam Collaboration & Training SupportAttend staff meetings, including earlier and increased meetings as scheduledSupport training efforts in coordination with Housing & Residence Life leadershipAssist with onboarding and cross-training initiatives as neededServe as a liaison between full-time staff and evening/weekend residential staff to support communication, consistency, and role developmentLearn and assist with both afternoon and evening RA responsibilities to provide flexibility and backup coverage during peak times or staffing gapsAdministrative & Operational SupportAssist with administrative tasks that support Housing & Residence Life operationsSupport Purchase Order (PO) requests and related logistical needs as assignedHelp improve operational efficiency and provide backup support during high-demand periodsPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degreeExperience working with students, adolescents, or in residential/student life settings preferredStrong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skillsAbility to maintain structure while building positive relationships with studentsAbility to work independently and collaboratively as part of a teamStrong judgment, professionalism, and reliabilityInterest in education, counseling, student affairs, youth development, social work, psychology, sociology, or related fields is a plusSchedule ExpectationsFull-time, live-in residential position40 hours per weekSchedule is primarily focused on evening coverageSome weekend work required based on staffing, programming, and operational needsSome flexibility may be required during special events, holiday transitions, emergency weather days, or staffing needsAs a live-in residential role, the position requires a consistent on-campus presence and availability to support the residential community as neededSalary: ASFA Teaching Salary based on Degree and ExperienceStart Date: ImmediateApplication and deadline: School must receive letter of interest, detailed resume, and three references with contact information no later than September 10, 2026.
