Job Description

Perform production and maintenance welding on large industrial components, focusing on heavy steel fabrications and machine components that support defense and commercial projects. Operate, monitor, and maintain heat treatment furnaces, ensuring all welding work is completed in accordance with company procedures and specifications. Read blueprints and fabricate components to the required dimensions while maintaining certifications and completing company weld qualification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Weld heavy steel fabrications and machine components for defense and commercial projects.

• Operate, monitor, and maintain heat treatment furnaces.

• Complete welding work according to company welding procedures and specifications.

• Read blueprints and fabricate components to required dimensions.

• Maintain certifications and complete company weld qualification requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in MIG, pulse arc, and flux welding.

• Ability to perform multi-pass fillet and butt welds.

• Comfortable welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.

• Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and templates.

• Use measuring devices and inspection tools to maintain tight tolerances.

• Understand welding procedures, workmanship standards, and quality requirements.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and safety standards.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in heavy manufacturing, shipbuilding, industrial fabrication, or large-component welding environments preferred.

• Familiarity with NAVSEA, fitting, fabrication, TIG, stick, carbon steel, and Inconel welding.

• High school diploma or GED required.

• 3-5 years of heavy industrial welding experience preferred.

• Strong mathematical and measurement skills.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

• Comfortable working overtime, nights, and weekends when needed.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work safely with hand tools, welding equipment, and large industrial machinery.

Work Environment

This is a night shift position (3rd shift) in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Work takes place in a large machine shop and fabrication facility around large steel components, propulsion shafts, and fabricated assemblies. Expect exposure to welding fumes, heat, sparks, and industrial noise, with frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and overhead work. The team-oriented shop culture involves working alongside machinists, welders, and fabrication personnel in a fast-paced environment focused on quality, safety, and production deadlines.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.00/hr.
