Gen Maintenance / GroundskeeperPrimary Purpose: To ensure the grounds of all district campuses and athletic fields, playgrounds are maintained in a safe and attractive condition and maintain and repair all small engine equipment.Qualifications:Education/Certification: High School Diploma or equivalent preferredValid Texas Driver's LicenseDriving record that meets the requirements of the district's insurance carrierSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Extensive knowledge of practices, materials, methods and tools to maintain grounds and playgrounds.Preferred Experience: Three or more years experience in landscaping or related fieldsMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Grounds and Landscaping:Maintain and care for school grounds and playgrounds.Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer if needed.Plant seeds, bulbs, tree seedlings, and shrubbery so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearance.Inspect playgrounds for unwanted pest.Experiment with different varieties of lawn and flower seeds to determine those best suited to the soil.Replace fiber surfaces in playgrounds.Prune trees and trim hedges to promote growth and improve appearance.Mow lawns with power mower.Connect sprinkling equipment and water lawns and flower beds.Inspect flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.Shovel snow from sidewalks and driveways and spread sand, salt or ashes to prevent slipping.Collects and disposes of leaves and refuse.Pull weeds from playgroundsSafety:Keep all water and oils checked on the equipment used.Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travelMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to read; Ability to understand oral and written instructions
