Nurse Resource Pool/Float Registered Nurse (RN)

The Nurse Resource Pool/Float Registered Nurse (RN) collaborates in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. Demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care of all patient care areas included within Resource Pool/Float assignments. Provides direct and indirect nursing care to patients in multiple care units. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs and specific care of the patients served in the assigned area of practice. Provides peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement. Supports colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. Leads efforts with management and within the Shared Governance Structure to alleviate identified care and culture disparities between units. Evaluates outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility.

The nurse must "possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered role, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team. Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Adhere and promote desired clinical outcomes for patients in accordance with guidelines.
2. Provide, direct and supervise the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran population
3. Promote and maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment
4. Perform systematic assessments of patients and assure that data is collected, documented and communicated.
5. Initiate and interpret cardiac monitoring and evaluate care of patients on telemetry on an ongoing basis.
6. Responsible for the implementation, administration, monitoring, and documentation of patient's response to prescribed treatment, including appropriate notification of adverse reactions to physician and hospital personnel.
7. Ensure all physician orders are transcribed and entered into the medical record in a timely manner.
8. Conduct all tasks necessary for management of a patient and document appropriately.
9. Monitor the environment for potential and/or actual safety hazards.
10. Direct supervision of unlicensed staff.

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Work Schedule: varies, weekend and holidays depending on operational needs
