Field Engineer Life Science/Engineering

We are seeking a dedicated Field Engineer to support the deployment, operation, and maintenance of innovative decentralized wastewater treatment systems in the Chesapeake Bay region. This hands-on role involves field operations, mechanical troubleshooting, data collection, system maintenance, and ensuring regulatory compliance, all within rural and off-grid environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor pilot-scale decentralized wastewater treatment systems, conducting routine inspections and performance assessments.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process-related issues, collaborating with teams to develop practical solutions for rural, off-grid settings.
• Collect water and system performance samples, coordinate laboratory testing, and document results to support system evaluation and regulatory compliance.
• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and system upgrades to ensure optimal operation and reliability.
• Serve as a regional representative, engaging with community stakeholders, assisting with site assessments, and communicating project status.
• Support startup, commissioning, and ongoing operation of wastewater systems, managing testing and documentation for regulatory permits.
• Oversee system deployment activities, verifying installation quality and supporting project schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
• Experience working with mechanical equipment, treatment systems, or similar technical systems.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in field environments and manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and community engagement.
• Commitment to safety procedures when working with equipment and wastewater systems.
• Willingness to travel throughout the Coastal Virginia / Chesapeake Bay region and reside within a reasonable distance to support emergency response within 24 hours.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Chemical, or related Engineering.
• Experience with wastewater treatment, decentralized sanitation, or environmental infrastructure.
• Troubleshooting experience with mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance.
• Experience working with rural communities or decentralized infrastructure.
