POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Instructional Supervisor, the Instructional Specialist is responsible for assisting in the monitoring of department programs and initiatives and executing administrative responsibilities, as required. The incumbent will track the progress of the department programs and initiatives, identify any areas of concern and make recommendations for improvement. The Instructional Specialist will perform a variety of administrative tasks, such as managing budgets, scheduling meetings and preparing reports. The Instructional Specialist will work with teachers and administrators to develop and implement curriculum, assess student learning and provide professional development. This position will also work with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders to develop and implement a comprehensive system for evaluating the effectiveness of department programs and initiatives.

Salary Range:$105,420-$159,459

Detailed Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

T o perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Meets regularly with Stakeholders for Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology Education;
  • Aids in implementation of grant-funded related activities with fidelity;
  • Conducts assessments, data collection and analysis of formal and informal data for use in targeting and monitoring the effectiveness of Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology Education plans, initiatives and projects;
  • Assists in evaluating instructional materials, digital textbooks, software and media;
  • Plans, conducts and/or coordinates professional development for Computer Science, Engineering, and Technology Education PreK-12 staff;
  • Coordinates requests from schools for assistance in working with Computer Science, Engineering and Technology Education plans, initiatives and projects;
  • Assists with and manages curriculum writing for Computer Science, Engineering Technology Education courses to align with MSDE, national standards and PGCPS requirements;
  • Attends and assists with the Computer Science strategic planning, team meetings and professional development;
  • Provides teachers with the skills that they need to effectively integrate technology into their teaching; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

  • Ability to monitor the implementation of the curriculums and collect feedback to support the continuous improvement of course instructional guides and instruction in schools;
  • Experience in grant writing;
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages, such as Python, Java, HTML5, CSS, Apple Swift and STEM education;
  • Ability to work collaboratively to develop curricular documents and assessments;
  • Ability to work effectively with classroom teachers, other instructional specialists and professional organizations in providing rigorous academic experiences for all students;
  • Experience developing curriculum and assessments aligned with local, state and national standards;
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; including the ability to relate positively and interact effectively with teachers, central office personnel, business partners and the general public;
  • Effective time management, documentation and organizational skills;
  • Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail;
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented environment in order to provide collaborative planning and professional development;
  • Strong instructional and facilitator skills; and
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point) and Google Applications (Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Sites).

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERICNE REQUIREMENTS:

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field required and course work in curriculum development preferred. A minimum of five (5) years experience in as a classroom teacher.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Advanced Professional Certificate issued by the Maryland State Department of Education; Administrator I Certificate required. Certified or ability to become certified in Framework for Teaching observations preferred.

Industry certification in Java, Python, HTML5, Apple Swift, Adobe, AWS, Microsoft, Google, a minimum of one certification required with eligibility to obtain more.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

No direct supervisory responsibilities.
