Certified Medical Assistant - Pediatrics Location: Durham, NC, US, 27710 Job Type: Regular Requisition Number: 272396 Date: Jul 16, 2026 Benefits Commitment Bonus: $7,500 Relocation Assistance: $2,000 (for qualifying candidates) JOB SUMMARY The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) is an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in a pediatrics setting, performing routine administrative and patient care support duties to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Clinical responsibilities: Take medical histories and record vital signs, explain treatment procedures to patients, and prepare patients for examinations and procedures. Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic laboratory tests, take electrocardiograms, remove sutures/staples, change sterile and non‑sterile dressings, promote patient/family understanding of educational content, and document in the patient record. Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, perform high‑level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments, telephoning prescriptions to a pharmacy, prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, and authorize drug refills as directed. Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician. Administrative responsibilities: Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, enter appointments into MaestroCare, checkout patients, schedule referrals, arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file medical records, complete insurance forms, handle billing and collections, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms. Perform other administrative duties as directed. May be requested to serve as a liaison for clinic activities such as Joint Commission activities, falls prevention, or to participate in clinic committees. JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school diploma or GED required. Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA‑CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required; include certification number and expiration date on the resume. BLS required.
