About the Role:

The Break Down Coordinator for CDL A Drivers plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient and timely movement of freight across the United States. This position is responsible for coordinating daily dispatch operations, managing driver schedules, and responding promptly to any breakdowns or emergencies that may arise on the road. The role requires close communication with CDL A drivers, maintenance teams, and customers to minimize downtime and maintain high service standards. By effectively managing logistics and troubleshooting issues, the Dispatcher/Break Down Coordinator helps optimize fleet utilization and supports overall operational success. This position demands strong organizational skills, quick decision-making, and the ability to work under pressure to keep deliveries on track and drivers safe.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience in dispatching or coordinating CDL A drivers in a transportation or logistics environment.
• Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements for commercial drivers.
• Proficiency with dispatch management software and GPS tracking tools.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or higher in logistics, supply chain management, or related field.
• Experience working with trucking operations.
• Familiarity with vehicle maintenance processes and roadside assistance coordination.
• Experience with TRANSMAN or similar system.
• Experience with mapping software and transportation management systems.  
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, to support 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate daily dispatch activities by assigning routes and loads to CDL A drivers based on availability, location, and delivery deadlines.
• Monitor driver progress and communicate proactively to address any delays, breakdowns, or safety concerns.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers experiencing vehicle breakdowns, arranging timely roadside assistance and repairs.
• Maintain accurate records of driver logs, vehicle status, and dispatch reports to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive maintenance and expedite repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Communicate effectively with customers regarding delivery status, delays, and rescheduling as needed.
• Utilize dispatch software and GPS tracking systems to optimize routing and improve operational efficiency.
• Ensure adherence to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety standards at all times.

Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating between drivers, maintenance teams, and customers, especially when resolving breakdowns or unexpected delays. Proficiency with dispatch software and GPS tracking systems enables the coordinator to monitor fleet status in real-time and optimize routing decisions. Problem-solving skills are critical when addressing vehicle issues or logistical challenges quickly to minimize operational disruptions. Additionally, knowledge of DOT regulations ensures that all activities comply with safety and legal standards, maintaining the integrity of the transportation process.
