Respiratory Therapist (In House Traveler Days)

Job Description Registered Respiratory Therapist reports to the shift supervisor/manager. Capable of setting up and operating various types of equipment for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease. Provides administration of respiratory‑specific gases, medications, and modes of therapy for compromised patients. Responds to emergencies throughout the hospital, performs Holter monitor initiation and discontinuance, analyzes and advises on arterial blood gas results. Provides in‑service education to patients and families on the use of respiratory equipment in the home environment. Assists in the transport of mechanically ventilated patients. Takes and records verbal and telephone orders from physicians as necessary. Acts as a resource to nurses, physicians, residents, interns, respiratory staff, students and other hospital staff regarding initiation and operation of all respiratory procedures. May assume a charge role in absence of Respiratory Supervisor and assist in ordering department supplies. Participates actively in departmental in‑service education programs, quality assurance programs, and department/OSUMC committees. Work schedule includes alternate weekends and holidays. Performs all other duties as assigned. This position is a 13‑week assignment.
