Maintenance Manager - Day Shift

Maintenance Manager – Day Shift Responsibilities Provide technical and administrative leadership to the maintenance team, overseeing planning/scheduling, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and reliability improvement of GMP and non‑GMP equipment at Amgen, North Carolina. Establish team strategies, objectives, and goals, consistently achieving key metrics and milestones. Supervise and develop direct reports, supporting Amgen’s continuous improvement culture. Meet regularly with key clients to identify opportunities and define the strategic direction for the maintenance team. Establish annual team goals, track progress and communicate outcomes to GMP F&E leadership. Develop staff through annual career development planning and serve as a role model. Improve team performance via regular 1:1 meetings and use of the Maximizing Amgen’s Performance (MAP) process—including coaching, mid‑year and end‑of‑year reviews, compensation planning, and talent management. Promote operational excellence and safety through purposeful floor presence, including regular job‑task walk‑throughs with staff. Collaborate with maintenance managers as part of the extended leadership team to enhance maintenance support. Serve as subject‑matter expert to triage and resolve maintenance process non‑conformances. Leverage expertise in GMP F&E processes, mechanical and utility systems, and instrumentation to build team capabilities in diagnosing and troubleshooting issues. Manage lifecycle assessment and recommend replacement or upgrades as needed to ensure high reliability. Maintain awareness of industry and regulatory trends for calibration, instrumentation, and maintenance. Provide input for responses to regulatory inspections or internal audits related to instrument calibrations or maintenance programs. Logistically and administratively manage staff resources and work schedules (vacations, on‑call rotation, etc.) to ensure adequate coverage and meet required PM calibration dates. Ensure staff maintain required training qualifications and are cross‑trained to support multiple GMP functional areas. Coordinate resources to support capital projects and work activities during maintenance shutdowns. Manage department budget and expenses. May be required to work second or third shift. Essential Qualifications High school diploma or GED and 10 years of maintenance and/or operations/manufacturing experience, OR Associate’s degree and 8 years of maintenance and/or operations/manufacturing experience, OR Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of maintenance and/or operations/manufacturing experience, OR Master’s degree and 2 years of maintenance and/or operations/manufacturing experience, OR Doctorate degree and 2 years of maintenance and/or operations/manufacturing experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in life science, technical or aligned field. 6+ years of relevant work experience in operations/manufacturing environment. 3+ years of experience in regulated environments (cGMP, OSHA, EPA). Managerial experience directly managing people or leading teams. Experience working with ATO GMP F&E clients and systems (Bulk Manufacturing, Filling and Packaging, Supply Chain, Quality Labs, Small Molecule Manufacturing). In‑depth technical knowledge of GMP equipment and instrumentation. Experience supporting GMP capital project execution and verification activities. Demonstrated leadership attributes as an individual contributor (e.g., leading initiatives or participating on network‑level continuous improvement teams). Proficiency in process improvement methodologies. Strong background in GMP Maintenance combined with excellent leadership and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to support multiple clients and prioritize resources against competing objectives. Benefits & Compensation Salary Range: 108,639.35USD – 146,982.65USD.
