Equipment Operator IV - Public Works

About This Position An Equipment Operator IV in the Public Works - Solid Waste Disposal Division is a skilled operator who utilizes specialized heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, excavator and other equipment in daily operations. The primary assignment for this vacancy is to safely handle refuse on a transfer station tipping floor with the main focus on keeping the workload at a manageable level, load and pack contracted long-haul trucks to a legal limit of 80,000 lbs. of refuse. The position is also responsible for performing post-trip inspections in an effort to minimize equipment failure and communicating by two-way radio with other employees throughout the day on placement of customers to dump and the diversion of recyclable material. The Equipment Operator IV - Landfill in the Public Works Department operates heavy equipment used in refuse disposal at the landfill. Responsibilities include rough excavation, spreading, compaction, covering and finishing to a prescribed grade. Equipment Operator IVs work under the general supervision of a Solid Waste or Landfill Foreman. These positions are for all Post-collection operations within the Public Works Solid Waste Disposal Division at the 27th Ave Transfer station. Ideal Candidate Work independently. Demonstrate sufficient understanding of jobsite material calculations. Operate water truck within the facility to comply with dust control permit. Safely and efficiently operate equipment that may include forklift, vacuum truck, dump truck, etc. Salary Pay Range: $28.86 to $40.61 per hour. Hiring Range: $28.86 to $36.84 per hour. Effective July 6th the following pay rates will be in effect. Pay Range: $29.40 to $41.42 per hour. Hiring Range: $29.40 to $37.58 per hour. Pay Range Explanation Pay range is the entire compensation range for the position classification. Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase. Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease. Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade. When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit. Be qualified for “out-of-class” pay as an Equipment Operator IV. Log 120 hours on equipment similar to that used in the specific division. Have a minimum of two years of experience operating construction equipment or five-ton trucks, on the same or related type of equipment used by Equipment Operators IV in the specific division. Requires working outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. The City job description can be found here. Driving Requirements Must have a verifiable safe driving record. Required to possess a class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with (O) endorsement at the time of hire. Required to pass an Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) medical examination. Pre-employment drug testing is required, and employees will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as a condition of continued employment. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. These position requires the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Work And Environmental Conditions Requirements Working irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings. Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required. Requires walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. Preferred Qualifications Possession of a Maricopa County Rule 310 Dust Certification. Experience With Compiling daily equipment reports consisting of logging number of loads excavated and the number of hours operating equipment. Backhoe operation with willingness to train on other heavy equipment. Operating heavy landfill equipment such as: Scrapers. Steel wheel type compactors. Dozers. Grader. Water pulls. Roll-off type equipment. Large bucket Loaders 4yrds and above. excavator type vehicles. Water truck. Tractor/trailer type vehicle. Working in: Solid waste environment.
