Registered Nurse

Youth Development Center Registered Nurse (RN)

A mission-driven healthcare organization is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care within a Youth Development Center and correctional healthcare setting in York, PA.

This role offers the opportunity to work with a small patient population in an environment that blends elements of primary care, adolescent health, school nursing, and correctional healthcare. The RN will deliver comprehensive nursing services, respond to medical emergencies, coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams, and support the overall health and well-being of incarcerated youth.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized patient care plans.
• Conduct intake medical screenings and ongoing health assessments for newly admitted and existing patients.
• Perform comprehensive physical assessments and review medical histories.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders and established protocols.
• Monitor and manage patients with acute illnesses, chronic conditions, and behavioral health concerns.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and urgent situations.
• Accurately document assessments, interventions, and patient progress within the EMR.
• Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, facility policies, and infection control standards.
• Collaborate with physicians, mental health providers, correctional staff, and other interdisciplinary team members.
• Educate patients on disease prevention, treatment plans, medication adherence, and health maintenance.
• Assist with quality improvement initiatives and regulatory reporting requirements.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff as needed.
• Supervise and support LPNs and nursing assistants in the delivery of patient care.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and adequately stocked clinical environment.
• Participate in the development and review of clinical procedures and best practices.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support facility healthcare operations.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in correctional healthcare, adolescent health, school nursing, primary care, behavioral health, emergency care, or similar settings preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work effectively within structured and fast-paced environments.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
• Knowledge of healthcare regulations, infection prevention practices, and medication administration standards.
