Middle School Math Teacher

Job Overview St. Johnsbury School District is located two minutes from Exit 21 on I‑91. The district serves approximately 560 students from pre‑K through 8th grade, and we are seeking a dedicated Middle Grades Math Teacher. We have a strong middle grades team that includes three classroom teachers, special educators, and behavior and academic support staff. Starting Date August17,2026 Job Summary The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching, a strong background in mathematics, and the ability to engage and inspire 7th and 8th‑grade students in their studies. Key Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery Develop and implement engaging lesson plans. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate different learning styles and needs. Foster a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, discussion, and student inquiry. Student Assessment Design and administer assessments to evaluate student progress and understanding. Provide timely and constructive feedback on student performance. Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of student grades and attendance. Classroom Management Establish and enforce clear classroom rules and procedures. Create a positive and respectful learning environment. Address and manage student behavioral issues in a constructive manner. Collaboration Work closely with colleagues to coordinate curriculum and share best practices. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development workshops, and school events. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom activities. Professional Development Stay current with developments in mathematics education and integrate new strategies into teaching practices. Pursue ongoing professional growth opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred). Valid Vermont teaching license, certification, or eligibility. Previous teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred. Strong knowledge of mathematics subjects and curriculum standards. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues. Reliable transportation to arrive on time. Physical Requirements Stamina: Long hours on feet and moving around the classroom. Energy Levels: High enthusiasm to engage and manage classroom dynamics. Health and Fitness: Good overall health to handle classroom demands. Manual Dexterity: Good hand‑eye coordination for tasks such as writing on a board and setting up activities. Mental Requirements Patience and Resilience: Managing diverse behaviors and helping students navigate emotions. Communication Skills: Clear, effective instruction and interaction with students, parents, and colleagues. Organizational Skills: Timely lesson planning, grading, and administrative duties. Problem‑Solving Ability: Adaptability to unexpected situations and lesson adjustments. Empathy and Emotional Intelligence: Responding to emotional and social needs of students. Attention to Detail: Monitoring assessments, tracking performance, and identifying improvement areas. Benefits and Compensation Salary follows the Teacher's Collective Bargaining Agreement, ranging from $49,750 to $88,985 per year based on experience and educational level. Teachers receive 186 school days per year, 15 sick days, 4 emergency days, 5 personal days, and 5 bereavement days. Health insurance: BCBS of Vermont; employer pays the first $1,900 for single coverage or $4,000 for multi‑person plans, plus 100% of prescription costs. Employer pays single dental coverage, life insurance, and long‑term disability insurance. Teacher’s pension: vested after 5 years of service.
