Assistant Principal-Lab School

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Position Summary The UNC School of Education is currently seeking a UNC‑Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Assistant Principal. The position is a twelve‑month, full‑time, non‑teaching role available in August 2026. The Assistant Principal will be housed at the school site in Roxboro, North Carolina, and will report to the CCA Principal. Their duties include supporting effective instructional practices and strategies to promote student academic and personal success, developing and implementing policies, innovative programs, curriculum activities, professional development, and budgets, and collaborating with UNC‑Chapel Hill School of Education and University staff to support teacher and school leadership preparation and education research. The Assistant Principal will also be responsible for planning all field trips, coordinating school‑level assessments, managing transportation, and serving as the chief administrator for after‑school and summer camps. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Hold a Master’s degree in School Administration (MSA) or be enrolled in an appropriately accredited MSA program and have at least two years of prior teaching experience.
  • Hold a current and valid North Carolina Educator’s License for School Administrator, or be eligible to hold one.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Work cooperatively and constructively with others. Handle a fast‑paced, intense work environment. Organize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Analyze complex problems, identify patterns, and recommend creative solutions. Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with broad and diverse audiences. Behave as a positive role model both professionally and personally. Commit to professional learning and development. Know public school and university partnerships. Possess administrative, budgetary, and supervisory skills or experiences closely parallel to school administrator work. Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Experience as an Assistant Principal. Spanish language skills. Elementary experience. Rural schools experience. Technology and written communication skills. Desire to become a school principal. Special Physical/Mental Requirements Typical physical demands of a professional position within a school environment. Campus Security Authority Responsibilities This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act.
