We are seeking a high‑performing Director of Operations to lead all operational functions at a KIPP Charter School. The Director works closely with the Regional Director of Operations and the Principal to ensure the school runs smoothly, allowing instructional leaders to focus on student achievement. Key Responsibilities School Operations Leadership & Operations Team Management Develops the school-wide operations vision in partnership with the Principal and RDSO, aligning with the academic and cultural vision. Collaborates with People Operations to hire and coach the operations team, including front office staff, facilities staff, and vendors. Manages, coaches, and develops team members, holding them accountable to goals and outcomes. Serves as the primary point of contact for the KIPP NC Regional Support Operations Team, collaborating across the region to build scalable systems, policies, and procedures. Finance & Purchasing Actively manages the school budget in partnership with the Finance Team, collaborating with the School Leader on financial decisions. Leads the school purchasing process, establishing clear systems for staff item requests, submitting purchase orders, approving purchases, and tracking vendor invoices. Serves as the first school‑based point of contact for finance, working with the regional Finance team to ensure financial compliance and reporting. Facilities & Maintenance Oversees facilities issues in partnership with the Facilities Manager, including maintenance, staff/vendor management, aesthetics, shared space agreements, and campus safety. Conducts regular facilities walkthroughs and liaises with custodial staff/vendors to maintain a high‑quality environment. Maintains a neat, organized main office with parent‑facing materials. Coordinates breakfast and lunch schedules with the Food Service Management Company to ensure students receive high‑quality meals. Submits student attendance to the school nutrition director. Oversees transportation logistics, including arrival and dismissal procedures. Creates and manages staff duty schedules to ensure coverage during peak student movement. Leads communications with families through letters, staff notes, and surveys. Manages logistics of transportation, lodging, meals, staffing plans, and all off‑site and on‑site special events. Hosts school tours. Participates as a member of the attendance team to reduce absenteeism and improve overall attendance. Technology & Equipment Ensures that students and staff have access to required technology and works with the Technology Team to plan enhancements. Leads the school opening/start‑up process each year, ordering furniture, equipment, and instructional supplies to ready student services. Manages the school’s supply and asset inventory, including computers and textbooks. Student Information, Testing, and Academic Operations Support Maintains accurate student data and information systems in compliance with federal, state, and school expectations. Acts as the point of contact for the SMS (InfiniteCampus), establishing rosters and class schedules. Manages logistical elements of all major student assessments with the principal or assistant principal. Manages logistics of report cards, progress reports, and transcripts. Student Recruitment & Enrollment Develops and manages the student recruitment strategy to ensure the school begins the academic year with full classes. Supervises the enrollment, transfer, and re‑enrollment process and prepares related files. Prepares and manages the student enrollment and attendance reporting. Plans and executes family info sessions, school tours, and lottery and enrollment processes. Risk Management, Compliance, and People Operations Administration Prepares the school for emergencies by conducting drills and training staff on emergency plans. Partners with the state‑wide Talent Acquisition Team on the new hire process. Ensures all staff have current employee files, certifications, and background checks. Collaborates with the People Operations team on onboarding and exiting of employees. Reviews and approves PTO requests, ensuring accuracy of leave data and trend assessment. Communicates leave needs and critical dates to the People Operations team, facilitating employee leaves and returns. Requirements Required Deep commitment to the mission of KIPP NC and belief in the potential of all students. Strong commitment to improving lives of children in marginalized communities. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. 2–3 years of full‑time business operations experience. Demonstrated management and leadership skills (at least 2 years managing a team or multiple large projects). Passes a Criminal Background Check. Strong project, time, and strategic management skills; ability to plan backwards, balance priorities, and deliver results. Customer‑service mindset with urgency, proactive problem solving, and quick decision making. Team player with strong interpersonal, stakeholder management, and relationship‑building skills. Ability to lead, influence, and hold others accountable to high standards of operational excellence. Comfort with financial oversight and budgetary tracking. Calm under pressure, especially in difficult conversations with parents and staff. Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Desire to continuously learn and increase professional effectiveness. Preferred Master’s degree in Business Administration, Education, or similar. Minimum 3 years of full‑time teaching or project management experience. Fluency in Spanish. Experience in the charter school environment. Compensation Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous benefits package.
